Calling all Drupal supporters, we need you to spread the word about this remarkable past "event":
Giant Drupal icon lights up Sydney Harbour Bridge
http://drupal.org/node/1044906
We have a rare opportunity to ride on Oprah's coat-tails and generate some publicity for Drupal out in the "real" world, where some people still haven't heard of Drupal (I know, how f#@*ed up is that?!).
Here's how you can help:
- Add a comment to the story on Drupal.org (see above)
- Stuff like "Did this really happen?" Maybe you were in Sydney when it "happened", or know someone who was? Then write about that in your comment. Maybe you think you saw it but can't be sure. Maybe you missed it coz it was only up there for 7 minutes. Maybe you have a theory as to how the giant Drupal sign got up on the bridge. Maybe you've heard about other mysterious appearances of giant Druplicons around the world. What is the significance of the beer that Dries is holding? Whatever you want to write, go ahead - we need lots of comments asap so the story shows up in the recent and popular lists on D.O.
-
Write about the story, link to it, or re-publish it on your blog.
-
Tweet about it, and encourage your followers to re-tweet
- Use the #drupalbridge hashtag
- The short link to the D.O story is http://bit.ly/fLU5Ri
- Crocodile DunDries has already tweeted about it (unfortunately his tweet went out when the story on D.O. was still picture-less)
- Comment about it and link to it on LinkedIn and Facebook.
- If I have time today I'll try to set up a Facebook page and ask my connections to "like" it.
- Email the story to any journalists and trendsetters you know.
Folks, the PR value of these kind of "news items" don't become fully apparent until years later (like the Tagging Air Force One video hoax: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfSma-NIumE ), but we need to generate a significant amount of buzz right now for that to eventuate. And the sooner you do your bit, the better.
From little things big things grow. Oprah's home town is Chicago and, wait a minute, isn't there a DrupalCon in Chicago in a couple of months? There's potential to get a nod from Oprah at some stage. No, really.
Anyway, have some fun with it, and thanks to you all in advance.
