Hot off the heals of DrupalCon, a number of Drupal'Govies are trying to figure out what's next. With the release of OpenPublic, there is a unique opportunity to tackle some of our more complex issues with an unprecedented way in sharing code, modules, content types and now APPS!!!
FYI, when I'm talking about a "summit," I'm describing a day/s that are mixture between a hackday, unconference, and a "con." Check out this summary < http://groups.drupal.org/node/98784 >.
With this in mind, we are trying to outline a number of key dates to hosts Drupal4Gov & OpenPublic Summits. Originally, I'm thinking that there should be one in DC that surrounds Drupal with in a National Government, and another one that is outside of DC that focuses on state and municipal use.
I'm also thinking that we should have some type of framing conversation at Drupal Government Days in Brussels. Sometime around the start of May, we should have our first conversation here in the Americas.
Thoughts?

June is Drupal for Cities Month
I spoke with a number of people about declaring June as Drupal for Cities month. There will be a separate groups.drupal.org page for this. Planning is just getting underway. If you are interested in participating and planning, please let me know.
In general, this is a month dedicated to increasing the visibility of Drupal in relation to cities and municipal government web sites and projects. We can do a few things: weekly checkins (scrums), present case studies, build up the list of Drupal sites used for cities, do sprints of work to help Cities get their sites into Drupal, try Open Public, try building Civic Apps with Open Public.
We will propose what we intend to do at the beginning of the month, support each other in our initiatives, and then report out on what we did & learned at the end of June.
And we will have fun, too!
In Québec
There is an official "week of municipalities", June 5th to June 11th 2011 this year. Koumbit is planning to launch a new municipal web hosting service for the occasion. Sounds like fun!
I'm back to thinking
That I need to start working on pulling together a Drupal4gov summit. I think I can get the space for a day long event at one of the Agencies in DC. Can accommodate up to 400, can divide into smaller groups, too so that we can run a couple of tracks.
Just not sure the interest level. I doubt the Int'l folks outside of DC would be able to come out for something like this, and I'm not even sure there'd be interest from them.
So, is this something to pursue now? Like the one held this year in Europe? A Drupal gov't Day(s)?
Just a minor kind of drupal geeky girl and for the US government no less!
In DC
I'm in DC working for a federal agency and would definitely be interested! Drupal is growing in popularity throughout our agency. Travel dollars are sparse, so a local event works great for me.
