Hi Jadrupalites,
The slashroots group will be undertaking the redesign of their website as an open source project, with the full participation of all members of the group. Do I hear you asking what is slashroots and why undertake the project in this way?
Slashroots is a Jamaican developer community. It's aim is to empower members, enable knowledge sharing and provide a platform for their skills to be shown to the world. This is why the community is being engaged in the remodeling of the groups virtual home, www.slashroots.org.
The development of the website will be undertaken in these stages.
- Requirements;
- Design;
- Development;
- Testing;
- Launch.
Work on different areas of the site will occur simultaneously. For example, theming and module development.
How the process be managed
- Google documents will be used to keep a permanent record of the site features.
- Codes will be hosted in a central online repository.
Decision-making will be done using a debate, vote and commit process. Where there is a stalemate the chief organisers will make the final decision.
Stage 1 - Site Requirements
Let us know what you to see on the website? And what content managment software should we use?
Slashroots want to hear from you now!
Regards
Michael Dixon

Well obviously the site
Well obviously the site should be built with Drupal :)
The main benefit I can foresee from such a site for most local devs is the ability to "provide a platform for their skills to be shown to the world". The effectiveness of that will be highly dependent on the stakeholders ability to build the reputation of the site as a resource when trying to find a developer/team. With that in mind I think two key features will be Profiles and Portfolios.

I'd be happy if it were built
I'd be happy if it were built with Drupal. Maybe we can look at a session on implementing some of this at April's meetup.
Not off to a good start
Its now over a week and haven't had a response from the slashroots peeps. Doesn't seem that anyone is interested in this.

It's cool. I'm one of the slashroots organizers and have been in touch with the rest of the team about it. We're trying to figure out how to organise this properly. Probably need to setup a wiki to be able to put notes and instructions in a central place.
