Pizza brought to you by Chapter Three, your Drupal experts in San Francisco!

Pritish Jacobs of Chapter Three will be presenting a new installation profile: Open Academy.

From http://drupal.org/project/openacademy:

Open Academy is an academic departmental website in a box. Built by Chapter Three based on our experience building websites for Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley, we have baked in critical functionality around departmental news, faculty profiles, publications and presentations, events and calendaring, courses, resources and links, video, social media, and degrees and programs. Out of the box, Open Academy lets a department get an amazing and extendible website. As a bonus, Open Academy was built entirely with the Panels module utilizing the In-Place-Editor, pane level fields override, style plugins, layout aware pane displays, and much more.

If time allows, Michelle will also share a recent implementation of Drupal Commons that I set up for a UC-wide collaboration site. Drupal Commons is an installation profile for building community sites.

hi michelle,

+1 for Drupal Commons session

would be really interested in your work with this distro !

I hate to say it, but I really like it.

Its flexible and powerful and in many ways best practice without being too tightly bound up with Spaces+Context+Features like Open Atrium or Managing News and not as unusably bloated as Open Publish. Kudos to Jay and Acquia team

I am looking at using DC 1.5 for some sustainability social media and am using Bakery and Apache Solr to glue various sites together.

There is a nice new Fusion sub-theme called Bright Lemon on Github (which has a Drupal.org flavor too it http://drupal.org/project/bluecheese
)

The new Fusion sub-theme is not released as a project yet, but...
https://github.com/acquia/commons/tree/master/docroot/profiles/drupal_co...
http://brightlemon.com/blog/brightlemon-working-acquia-drupal-commons

not sure if I prefer acquia_commons or bl_commons, certainly bl_commons is more generic

I noticed also the Forge.mil has built a private Drupal Commons community site for parts of their OSS mil ecosystem. Obviously I havent seen that implementation.

hope you will present Drupal Commons, look forwarding to it

cheers

Tomorrow's BDUG Topic: Open Academy

I added a description - http://groups.drupal.org/node/144029. If you are responsible for academic department sites, you won't want to miss this presentation!

Thanks, Niccolo, for the vote for Drupal Commons - I think we'll have time to cover that as well. I have a pretty much out-of-the-box installation to show, but it would be great if you could share your ideas for extending and integrating. Thanks!
