Here is the IRC log from our planning session

<shibby> Hello TriDUG folks, I'm Jason Hibbets and I'm here with Allen Freeman [ afreeman ] and Greg Monroe [ CGMonroe ]
<CGMonroe> 'lo again everyone
<shibby> The purpose of this IRC session is to plan for the May 11th TriDUG meeting
<shibby> we haev a meet-up already scheduled: http://www.meetup.com/triDUG/events/17360870/
<shibby> and an event on d.o: http://groups.drupal.org/node/143464
<Druplicon> http://groups.drupal.org/node/143464 => TriDUG Meetup May 11th - 6:30PM @ Hesketh.com location (Raleigh) => 0 comments, 1 IRC mention
<shibby> What would we like to do at our May 11th meet-up, any and all suggestions welcome
<afreeman> I've got a super-geeky presentation on advanced UI with #ahah I could do if we're short a presenter.
<shibby> As I understand it, we usually mingle from 6:30-7pm and start at 7pm
<afreeman> Yep. Based on feedback at the last meetup looks like 7-8 for presentation followed by an hour of open format discussion is the new normal.
<shibby> timswezy: ping did you have something up your sleeve for theming? no pressure
<CGMonroe> We probably should do the same "Q&A with new coordinators"
<timswezy> I can present concepts/final art for the TriDUG logo, not much on theming thought, still learning :)
<timswezy> though rather
<shibby> CGMonroe: agreed, 15 minute should be enough?
<afreeman> +1 15 minutes. We could even squeeze that into the "social" time at the beginning of the meetup.
<shibby> timswezy: I like showing early / often for the logo stuff, that's exciting
<CGMonroe> +1 15 min sounds OK
<FrankC> concur on 15 mins
<juliakm> hey all. can't make the may 11th meeting but I'm here in case anyone wants to discuss lunch meetups
<afreeman> Have we made any progress on venue for the lunch stuff?
<CGMonroe> Logo work report out sounds OK.. 5 min?
<timswezy> let me apologize in advance if my IRC-fu is weak, literally the first time I've used it
<timswezy> 5 min should be plenty
<shibby> So far, I'm hearing 7-7:15  "Q&A with new coordinators" | 7:15-7:30 Logo updates by timswezy | 7:30-8pm presentation
<CGMonroe> Re: Lunch Venue:  Been playing phone tag with the person about venue
<shibby> timswezy: CGMonroe let's plan for 15 in case there's feedback (there usually is for this type of stuff)
<CGMonroe> K
<juliakm> CGMonroe: Thanks for the update
<-- timswezy (~timswezy@adsl-162-133-207.rmo.bellsouth.net) has left #drupal-nc
<shibby> so...unless we have a different presentation, afreeman has 30 minutes for adv. UI
<afreeman> Not enough time.
--> timswezy (~timswezy@adsl-162-133-207.rmo.bellsouth.net) has joined #drupal-nc
<afreeman> I'd need a full hour.
<afreeman> #ahah's a beast.
<shibby> ah ok, go to 8:30 then?
<timswezy> shibby: sounds good
<afreeman> shrug Up to the consensus view.
<FrankC> works for me
<CGMonroe> works for me.. we tend to go to 9 at durham
<daveparrish> Fine with me
<shibby> On a side note, I went to TriDUG last week? I think...anyway, a few ideas from there that we might consider
<shibby> they had a find a job / need a job part, which was pretty neat
<afreeman> You mean TriLUG?
<shibby> it was a chance for people who had jobs to "post" them tot he
<CGMonroe> TriDUG?
<Druplicon> TriDUG is the most awesome Drupal Users' Group ever!
<shibby> err, yes, LUG!!!!
<shibby> too many UG's out there
<daveparrish> Is that the Linux group?
<shibby> yes
SteveCory lolz about teh Drupalicon
<shibby> it was a chance for people who had jobs to "post" them to the group
<shibby> and ppl who were looking for jobs to give a 30 sec resume type thing.
<shibby> It may not work for us, but it was neat
<shinzou> that could be interesting, I'd say try it for a few meetings
<shibby> Also, they had a community announcements section
<shibby> I used it to talk about CityCamp Raleigh
* afreeman points out there's a job posting feature on g.d.o. Typically we re-announce any postings made there to the meetup. If anyone knows of open positions that haven't been posted to g.d.o I'm in favor of announcing them during the meetup.
<shibby> so those are some other ideas that I was able to borrow from other groups ;)
<daveparrish> My friend found a job that way in a RoR meetup group a few weeks ago.  I think that is a good idea.
<juliakm> at the refresh the triangle meetups, they used to give 5 minutes to each of the sponsors to introduce themselves
<CGMonroe> How did they handle "moderation"...e.g. so it didnt turn into a public full interview?
<FrankC> jobs and community announcements sounds good
<daveparrish> You could just ask, who is looking for help and who is looking for work.  And have people briefly describe what it is they are looking for.
<CGMonroe> I agree with the "Announcements" section... it's kind of like what we do with our go-around but more slightly more formal
<SteveCory> Community Announcements? Is that Camps Cons and such?
<shibby> CGMonroe: I think it was a well established part of the group, so they limited the time each person had
<afreeman> It could be, Steve, and that's a good idea.
<shibby> it didn't seem to be a problem for them -- hijackers ;)
<FrankC> would the interviewer, as such, be there?
<shibby> SteveCory: yes -> Community Announcements? Is that Camps Cons and such?
<juliakm> we had a problem early on at TriDUG with hijackers from a hiring agency
<shibby> FrankC: probably not, most ppl where like I heard about this job, come see me after
<afreeman> Where they a problem? I saw them show up to one meetup and they sat quietly until told to do their speech. Of course that might have been after you and Sheena reeled them in.
<shibby> juliakm: there was a recruiter at TriLUg, but they made a brief announcement and then sat down
<CGMonroe> I like that format.. just tell about the job and cover it one on one
<CGMonroe> after
<juliakm> afreeman: they had been there before and had emailed all of our members after that time. If I was doing it again, I would have suggested they become a sponsor before letting them talk.
<afreeman> juliakm: Ahh. See I didn't know about the spam.
<SteveCory> Ya gots ta pay if ya wanna play, cowboy
<shibby> I think we've got our agenda set....here goes:
<shibby> TriDUG - May 11 at Hesketh.com location
<shibby> Agenda
<shibby> - 6:30-7pm meet and greet
<shibby> - 7-7:15pm  "Q&A with new coordinators"
<shibby> - 7:15-7:30pm find a job / need a job + community announcement
<shibby> - 7:30-7:45pm Logo updates by timswezy
<shibby> - 7:45-8:45pm Presentation: Advanced UI with #ahah
<shibby> - 8:45-9pm wrap-up
<CGMonroe> How about just being clear about the "Announcements/Shout Out" format... as you've got 2 minutes or less to say it.
<afreeman> Mebbe we save #ahah for a meetup where it isn't going to eat the open discussion time?
<shinzou> #ahah could take a while  :)
<afreeman> I think it's doable in an hour.
<shinzou> and there will be questions
<afreeman> Yeah, lots of questions. :)
<shibby> ok, other ideas for preso's then?
<afreeman> Yeah.
<shinzou> An overview of Drupal distro would be cool
<shinzou> distros
<SteveCory> D'OH!
<afreeman> I think Dave Parrish needs to present an overview of optimization strategies for high performance Drupal.
<afreeman> :)
<juliakm> shibby: you could ask kostah and gloryfish to do their presentation on upgrading to Drupal 7 from NCTech4Good
<shibby> SteveCory: daveparrish flip a coin? either of you willing to present?
<afreeman> C'mon Dave, you know you wanna.
<shibby> 30 minute....
<daveparrish> Sorry, can't commit to presenting at this time. :)
<shibby> 30 minutes....
<CGMonroe> fame for a lifetime
<afreeman> The sauce, it is weak. :(
<shibby> SteveCory: could you do distro's
<SteveCory> Oh pull ease, i would if i knew enough
<shibby> no better time than the present :)
<juliakm> SteveCory: What about an overview of what distros are out there?
<CGMonroe> Or just a story on you search thru distros
<juliakm> http://www.drupaldistrowatch.com/
<SteveCory> That would be a rerun of last week . . . maybe
<afreeman> Even better. Everyone likes a narrative.
<afreeman> Yeah, but for a new crowd.
<timswezy> remakes/reboots are big right now
<gloryfish> I think this group would be a better target for the Drupal 6 -> 7 migration info.
<shibby> actualyl SteveCory it might be neat for you to drill down to one that you know / use
<CGMonroe> And a few slide/url to sites to show features of them.
<shinzou> OpenPublic, ManagingNews, OpenAtrium, and Drupal Commons weren't talked about last meeting
<juliakm> gloryfish: I think they would appreciate the unicorn slide
<gloryfish> juliakm: without question
<shibby> unicorn's and migrations....hmmmmm
<CGMonroe> hey jay...lurking about...
<afreeman> I smell a win here.
<shibby> I hear the word "automagic" being used alot
<gloryfish> hi CGMonroe!
<shibby> excuse my newbie-ness, does gloryfish go by a different name or should I just put gloryfish  on the agenda?
<shibby> :)
<gloryfish> Oh :) I'm Jay Roberts of DesignHammer
<juliakm> gloryfish  = http://www.designhammer.com/about/staff/jay-roberts
<shibby> thx
<shibby> so we've got you slotted for may 11th then?
<gloryfish> Please, nobody read that bio. I beg you.
<CGMonroe> He is real.. and not a fiction of his dogs.
* shibby goes to read immediately
<gloryfish> I have to talk to Kosta, he's out right now
<daveparrish> To late Jay
<SteveCory> I added links to the distros i covered at http://groups.drupal.org/node/141909
<Druplicon> http://groups.drupal.org/node/141909 => Reminder - TriDUG meetup tonite in Durham (Duke Corporate Education) => 0 comments, 2 IRC mentions
<shibby> thx Druplicon
* juliakm realizing that jay talks about wooing in his bio
* SteveCory kicks the Drupalicon
<timswezy> from that bio maybe we need a guitar demo?
<gloryfish> juliakm: Yeah that's pretty much it. I didn't write that.
<gloryfish> timswezy: see? this is how these things start.
<timswezy> I mean, lead and rhythm, double-threat :)
<shibby> Do we have a back-up in case gloryfish can't present...
<shibby> or maybe I should ask, how certain are you that you can make it, 70% 50% 90%?
<juliakm> gloryfish: I'd hire you after reading this. :)
<gloryfish> juliakm: hahah, at least there's that :)
<gloryfish> There's a good chance myself or Kosta or both will be able to attend (and present) on the 11th. I'll double check when he gets back. SHould I post to the group when we knoe for sure?
<shibby> gloryfish: yes please
<CGMonroe> thanks jay
<shibby> this has been fun everyone!
<afreeman> Or you could just throw Kosta under the bus and commit now. :)
<shibby> Here is the agenda that I've captured
<gloryfish> afreeman: I love it.
<shibby> Agenda
<shibby> - 6:30-7pm Meet and greet
<shibby> - 7-7:15pm  Q&A with new coordinators
<shibby> - 7:15-7:30pm Find a job / need a job + community announcement (2 minutes or less / person)
<shibby> - 7:30-7:45pm Logo updates by Tim Swezy
<shibby> - 7:45-8:15pm Presentation: Drupal 6 -> 7 migration by Jay Roberts from DesignHammer
<shibby> - 8:15-8:45pm Open discussion
<shibby> - 8:45-9pm Wrap-up
<shibby> look good to everyone?
<CGMonroe> Is there going to be pizza?
<shinzou> sounds good, thanks!
<shibby> And we'll look for a confirmation on the presentation before we update the meetup and event
<shibby> CGMonroe: I'll confirm
<afreeman> The odds of actually keeping strictly to those times are functionally nil. My only suggestion would be to turn that into a bullet list of agenda points instead of posting time increments. YMMV
<SteveCory> Great Jason
<shibby> afreeman: do you usually ask the hesketh about food?
<gloryfish> Looks good. I should now for sure by the end of the day today.
<afreeman> Nah, Hesketh says there will always be pizza.
<afreeman> So far that has continued to be the case.
<shibby> afreeman: good to know
* CGMonroe Wonders if the world will explode if DesignHammer presents at Hesketh?
<FrankC> or implode
<gloryfish> :)
<afreeman> chortles
<afreeman> Might be worth the lulz either way.

<CGMonroe> I think we can count on Jay, et al. just because of the venue...lol
<shibby> anythign else?
<afreeman> Yeah
<afreeman> Two things:
<CGMonroe> long things
<afreeman> 1. any progress on Durham lunch venue and 2. any updates on what CityCamp will be looking to TriDUG to provide?
<shibby> deep thoughts by afreeman
<timswezy> lol
<CGMonroe> Re 1: As I said, I've been playing phone tag with the lady who controls the Underground room.
<shibby> on item 2 - I'm thinking it will most likely be help with spreading the word and potential speakers for the Saturday unconference
<shibby> we have a meet-up tonight, I'll try to find out more
<afreeman> So #1, no change so far and #2 sounds fairly minimal. Roger that.
<shibby> we = citycamp Raleigh
<CGMonroe> Anyone here know anyone who works in the "ATC Underground" startup incubator?
<shibby> CGMonroe: do they haev a website
<shibby> I think I met someone from there at a conference this past January
<shibby> I'm searching my brain for her name
<timswezy> http://www.americanunderground.com/
<CGMonroe> Lol.. just found that
<shibby> I dont' recognized anyone on the synergy adv board, I'll look thru my linked in later
<shibby> alright, well, thanks all for attending today. This was really fun.
<shibby> It seems pretty successful, so we'll try this again for the June meetup
<shibby> I'll post the log to the TriDUG list
