User group meeting

The 9th meetup for the Tampa Bay Drupal Users Group is this Thursday, May 5th @ 6pm.

For this meetup, if he is available then Chris (chrisbudy) will likely discuss Views (finally!), as this is a topic that is of interest to any and all users. I am volunteering Chris for this but if he is unable to make the meeting and someone else would like to present on a different topic then please comment on this with your topic of choice.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, at the usual location — Panera on Ulmerton Road:
2285 Ulmerton Rd.
Clearwater, FL 3376
Google Maps Link

There is a $50 charge to use their meeting room, but any food purchases are deducted from this cost, so come hungry (for food as well as Drupal knowledge)!

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

I was planning to get to the next meetup but I'm not getting back from 2 weeks in Texas until 8pm on the 5th so I'm going to just miss it by a couple of hours.
Is there any chance that you will be posting anything afterwards?

oops, that said May 5...what's going on in August?

Next Meetup is Aug 4th

We meet on the first Thursday of every month. We usually do try to post a little follow up after our meetups as well, so you can at least see what was talked about and who talked about it.

Sorry we won't get to see you at the next meeting, but hopefully the following one will work out for you!

google+ hangouts

have you thought of integrating google+ hangouts into your meetings?
I realize you need warm bodies to help pay for the meeting room.
just a thought.

Central Florida used Google +

joemoraca's picture

I was one of the test victims for the Central Florida meeting this past Saturday Google + hangout worked pretty well for their meeting room -- big projection screen near the webcam.

It might work at Panera ....

I'm down

I'd be happy to try it out. I'm sure I have an external webcam I could bring if we need, or we likely all have built-in webcams on our laptops as well.

I was with Joe at the Orlando

I was with Joe at the Orlando meetup and it worked well. Maybe a chipin or something to defer the cost?

I briefly stopped in with a New York meetup yesterday via webex and the G+ seemed much better.

I could see our local meetups growing quickly in attendance and our world getting much much smaller very quickly by enabling remote participation.

Ideally, face to face contact is priceless, but just not possible sometimes. This could make regional meetups possible as well and even live drupalcamps eventually as well.

I've got a webcam waiting for

I've got a webcam waiting for me in Texas. I'll hook it up when I get there and try to attend the Aug 4th meeting via google+
I haven't started a Hangout yet. Let me know how to get into it.
Let me know how to chipin to the meeting room cost.

Opentok Session Field module

You guys may also want to consider Opentok http://www.tokbox.com/opentok/api , but it will require integration with a website. At least this is something we are considering for the Broward Drupal meetup.

Jose Torres from the Miami Drupal meetup wrote the Opentok Session Field module http://drupal.org/project/opentok , so there is already a place to start if you have a website for your meetup group.

I have not tried G+ yet, but it looks like it is already working for other Drupal meetups.
