The Sacramento Drupal Users Group is pleased to announce the first ever Drupal Camp Sacramento Area.
This auspicious event will be two days full of sessions, BoFs, code sprinting, and engagement. Registration is now open and session proposals are now being accepted.
Important Information:
Dates: Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29, 2011
Location: University of California, Davis
Cost: FREE!
Registration and more info: http://sacdrupal.org
In addition, to get you beginners up to speed, Chapter Three is offering their "Drupal in a Day" training for FREE on Friday, May 27, the day before the camp begins, so there will be No Drupaler Left Behind. Space for the training is limited, and is only available to Drupal Camp Sacramento Area registered attendees.
WE NEED PRESENTERS AND BoFs!
We have two days to fill up and we need Drupal community members to submit sessions. Have a module crush you just have to talk about? Figure out the perfect dev/test/prod workflow? We will have up to 5 session rooms running at once, so your session is almost certain to be approved. Voting is already underway, so register for the camp and submit your session.
If you don't have a presentation to give, but you want to get some like-minded folks together to discuss the latest and greatest of anything Drupal, then submit a BoF proposal just as you would a session proposal.
We only have a couple weeks, so submit your proposal now!
WE NEED SPONSORS!
If your organization is interested in sponsoring Drupal Camp Sacramento Area, please submit an inquiry via our web site contact form, and select "Sponsorship" in the "Subject" pull-down.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!
The work has only just begun. We need friendly volunteers on-site to help with registration and other tasks. If you're interested in volunteering, please let us know!

Hmm...I have friends in Davis! Is it possible to get there on public transportation from the airport? Not sure if I wanna lug the car all the way up from L.A. again. Or is there a train station? I was kinda thinking of taking the train...but flying might be cheaper...
Hope I can make it...nothing like a good Camp.

train station
There is a train station in walking distance to the campus, Amtrak runs pretty regularly from the Bay & Sacramento (with outlets to plug in laptops) but I don't know the connections for a journey from LA. Public transit is on http://sacdrupal.org/venue
Davis is also super-bike friendly, as is Amtrak.
Airport
There are two ways to get from the Sacramento airport:
Shuttles such as Davis Airporter (a local shuttle that runs $23 one-way) and SuperShuttle are probably the quickest way, but most expensive.
Yolobus route 42B goes from the airport, through Woodland, and will get you to UC Davis (and a few other Davis destinations) in a little under an hour. To get BACK to the airport, route 42A goes back the other direction. Fares are $2 each way.
Thanks! Amtrak seems like the
Thanks! Amtrak seems like the best alternative to driving...it's about the same price as the cheapest airline anyway that flies from near me, ironically (JetBlue).
Hopefully I can make it.

Amtrak from Bay Area is good, LA looong
I'd recommend the Bay Area to Davis train. Getting the train from LA takes a loooooooooooooooong time. If you get a window seat on the ocean side you should get an amazing view of the coast for much of the trip.
Hehe, yeah, it'll be long
Hehe, yeah, it'll be long from L.A., but my line of thinking is that either I drive 6-8 hours and forfeit some billable hours like that plus pay probably at least $120 now with gas prices...or I shell out the $140ish for Amtrak and recoup some of it during the train ride :D Better than flying too...which is about the same price, but ugh, airport security...getting to and from airports...constant interruptions...etc. On the train, I just have to get there and then I have a lot of uninterrupted time...not so flying. Plus $20-30 to park the car at the airport for a few days.
Right, so that's the longer-than-needed version of my train plans :)
See you guys at the camp.

Bomber...
Looks like I saw this posting a little too late.. I would like to have giving a session on Display Suite, Solr or three (see below) of the 18 custom mods we developed for the historic TownSource Project. However, I'll still stop by :)
Advanced Link mod (Integrating the Finder Mod) for ck_editor
Ajaxify nodereference fields
Dynamic fields
Oh, and if anyone is curious, the townSource project is about creating a central location for relevant information about a specific town or city. Just look at the posts here... People asking about public transportation, etc. Our platform allows you to record the world around you. Kinda like a wiki only with natural language processing and text analytics. Over time, the database of knowledge grows and grows until almost everything that anyone wants to know is available. We aim to create a place where every member of the community can share his or her knowledge and voice his or her interests and opinions. We uses a number of unique automated tools that detects the meaning and relationships of the content you create. We then integrate that information into a cohesive resource which will provide the full context behind the people, places and events that shape our local communities.
We then broadcasts that collective knowledge to the world, enabling multi-channel outbound communication via text, email and even voice broadcasts via our "connect to listing" feature. This allows local ‘mom and pop’ shops, businesses and other service providers to rapidly build and interact with a large customer-base at low costs, keeping them updated on new sales, deals and other offers. Awesome I know. We're going to blow everything else away.
