Hey all...
MF (the manager of this group) and I are Metro_Detroiters who are drupal freaks. Hopefully we'll find a bunch more of you here as well.
We host a podcast where we talk a bunch about drupal and other CMS related ideas. Check it out at www.geeksandgod.com
peace!

Another Metro-Detroiter Here
I'm a fellow metro-Detroiter although I'm actually closer to Flint. Anyway, it's good see others this area working with Drupal.
Sweet....
Awesome, tread....
What kinda stuff do you do with drupal? Always great to find other users in this area (we don't know of any other ones). I personally am a designer (not a programmer type) that uses drupal for Christian ministry sites I develop thru my biz: www.mustardseedmedia.com
Matt (aka MF) is my personal programming geek. He does all the crazy stuff when I need it.
I'd love to hear more about what you do.
name's Dave
Name's Dave. I'm a systems admin for a robotics company in Auburn Hills. I've been working with HTML and Javascript for the past 10 years and only recently starting looking into CMS packages. I checked out Joomla and I wasn't really impressed. I came across drupal about a month ago and haven't turned back. I just recently launched my first drupal site www.drivefilter.com.
I checked out your site. You do some really nice design work! I've been trying to improve my eye for design, but I'm better at structuring and coding. I see sites like yours and some of the other drupal sites and I'm just amazed at what can be done. You certainly set the bar high!
engineer, too
I am an engineer by day, too. I am, like you, better at coding and structure than I am at design. This is where Bob and I work well together.
If you like drupal and javascript then you must be loving drupal 5 and jquery. Have you looked into or used jquery? I think that and the lightweight CCK are going to make me a very happy man when it finally comes out.
also working in metro Detroit...
I work in metro Detroit as a web developer in the corporate world, but live just North of Toledo. I have many Drupal sites - my main one is http://www.smorgasbord.net. Secondary site I'm working on at the moment is http://www.celebritynewslive.com. I have half a dozen other Drupal sites to launch by years' end (if I can manage it).
Main main interests in Drupal are a bit different - generating traffic, and making money. I build web sites to generate income, and I constantly obsess ways I can use Drupal to increase that income. That's probably why I spend so much time trying to figure out how to best optimize a Drupal site for the search engine crawlers.
I am extremely interested in RSS feeds and content aggregation with Drupal, mostly because it's something that Drupal is so poor at - and what kills my server on an almost regular basis. I can't stop aggregating content though - because it's what generates a large portion of my traffic.
I use Drupal everyday in about a dozen of my web sites - check out http://www.smorgasbord.net and http://celebritynewslive.com.
also in Detroit
I've put up a couple of sites - http://www.wiiwiiworkout.com was the first - I've learned to hate that Garland design. Learnin Zen theme and altering it is the way to go. I've got another one or two out there - just discovered online last night a theme called Jazzlite which seems kind of cool. I'm trying to learn about Views and Panels - I'm also learning PHP. I've been developing websites for a number of years - at first static - then, together with programmers quite a few dynamic ones. I've had a couple commercial clients who have done very well selling off the net - but mostly people using it for other purposes. I've put news feeds up on Drupal - I see where Wordpress handles some things better, but overall, Drupal is so much bigger in scope. It's just difficult to learn. I'm in the w. bloomfield area.
Crash Course in Drupal
Hey drupalgurl,
Thanks for posting. It looks like you're well on your way into the world of Drupal, but as you mentioned, it can be a challenging thing to learn. For a great crash course in all things Drupal, head over to Rob and MF's web site and check out the ten part Drupal series on their podcast. I've been using Drupal for almost two years, and I learned quite a few things from that series. It's good stuff.
