Hurray!

Quickstart 1.0 is ready. This is a bug fix and software refresh over Quickstart 9.1.

General:
* i386 and amd64 versions:
- amd64 for speed, but requires 64bit OS and modern CPU (bittorrent)
- i386 for compatibility (bittorrent)
* Share websites folder for access over windows networking

Software Updates:
* Ubuntu 11.04
* Netbeans 7.0
* Eclipse Helios SR2
* Drush 4.4
* Drush Make 2.2

Thanks!
* Everybody on the issue list for helping to improve the project
* Open source!

I'm continuing to work on the Quickstart Drush commands, and got a great "git aware shell" script, but no reason to wait to release this update any longer. See you in Quickstart 1.1

Best luck!

Mike

Great project!

Thanks for your hard work, Mike. Quickstart is a great project. I always recommend it when I talk to people who are new to Drupal.

Do you have a recommended way for migrating from Quickstart 0.9.1 to 1.0? Migrating the sites shouldn't be too difficult, but I'm also thinking of all of the other files I want to transfer, such as makefiles and Drush alias files.

Great!

Tracker for 1.0

TruthWarrior17's picture

I switched my tracker address from http to udp and it started working albeit with only a couple seeds. downloading slowly now. hope that helps. I noticed past versions used udp in the tracker and this one used http. I don't know if it's a mistake or what.

Thanks! Downloaded, now

Thanks! Downloaded, now seeding.

Cannot download :-(

meason's picture

This sounds like a great project! Thanks for putting it together. I love the idea. Unfortunately, I cannot download it. I'm not that familiar with torrents, does the fact that I'm in South Africa make a difference? When I use the torrent there are zero seeds and 3(8) peers and the download doesn't seem to download anything. Any tips? Are there any file sharing sites with this on? Or perhaps a Usenet group? I'd love to get to use this!

I'm seeding

Seeds have appeared!

Thanks justaman... my torrent shows 7(7) seeds 0(2) peers... and it's downloading. It says ETA is 8 hours. I'm looking forward to 'unwrapping' it once it's downloaded.
Thanks for all who are seeding, it's much appreciated.

Freezing

All my 1.0 AMD64 machines freeze when i boot. last version i used was 0.9 and it worked fine. Trying the i386 version and 0.9.1 now to see but I do have a 64-bit processor with 64-bit windows 7.

AMD64 compatible with Intel?

meason's picture

I'm busy downloading 1.0. I haven't tried it yet but I was wondering if the AMD64 version would be compatible with my Intel CPU. I'm also running Windows 7 64-bit on an Intel... is the AMD64 just a label that says it's 64-bit or is it that it'll only work on a AMD64 CPU?

Ubuntu 10.10 host 64 works fine

just booted v1 on host Ubuntu 10.0 with the AMD64 version, seeding now

Hello, I just got back from a

MichaelCole's picture

Hello,

I just got back from a long camping weekend at an art festival called Flipside. I rushed to get the torrent out before I left, and it seems it didn't work for everyone who was trying to download it.

I like using bittorrent for distributing the project. It's a legal use for a useful protocol, that let's us use the bandwidth we've all already paid for to distribute the project.

However it has to work, so I am looking into alternatives. It appears that the opentorrent.com tracker was/is having some trouble (or I misconfigured the .torrent file).

Anyways, sorry for the confusion. I'll look into this and post a new torrent in a couple of days that hopefully everyone can use.

Best wishes,

Mike

11.10

Has anyone managed to successfully upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) under Quickstart 1.0?

Hi, I tried this on my

MichaelCole's picture

Hi, I tried this on my desktop and was not 100% satisfied with the results.

A way to see if it does what you want is to install a fresh copy of quickstart, and then upgrade. The upgrade from Gnome 2 to Gnome 3 isn't seamless.

I'm working on a new version of quickstart that will probably use Gnome 3.

Cheers,

Mike

Fails on fresh copy

shiva7663's picture

I tried the upgrade on a fresh copy of quickstart, and it finally gets to a point where it's trying to reboot, but there's just a bluish screen with strange-looking text. I'll try it again and see if I can produce a screenshot.
