Hello Drupal Iowa,
The WiderNet eGranary digital library (www.widernet.org) at the University of Iowa is using a grant from Intel to develop a Community Information Platform that will enable users of the eGranary (an offline collection of information resources aimed at underserved populations) to create their own web pages and populate them with local content. We have decided to use Drupal, and want to create a very easy interface that won't require the user to go into the backend at all (i.e., something along the lines of www.blinkz.com or www.buildacommunity.com).
Does anyone have advice on how Drupal can be used to accomplish this? Alternately, if anyone is interested in consulting on this project or knows of Drupal enthusiasts in the Iowa City area that might be, we would love to hear from you.
Thanks!

Sounds interesting! Come to our next meeting!
Hello,
I'm the leader of the Iowa Drupal Users Group. Might you consider coming to our next meeting and presenting your project requirements? Maybe a 15 min informal introduction about your goals and hurdles. I in specific but the group in general really enjoys solving complex problems with Drupal. I already have some ideas and potential solutions for your project but will leave them as carrots to get you to come out (hehe). We represent a wide range of users from beginners to veterians like myself so you will not feel out of place at all. You may find a consultant and if not within the group we can probably point you at someone who may be interested. I know of two really great people off the top of my head.
In addition, I know there are alot of Drupal people at the university that are unaware of our group and we would love to connect with them. Bring your friends , especially if they are from ISU!
What do you say? Come out and talk about your project and we'll try and solve your problem. All for free!
Our next meeting will be September 29, 7pm.

Seconded
I'm interested to hear how others would implement this sort of site. Although I have yet to work with it, I imagine the Organic Groups module might be involved. Hmm.... interesting project. It would be great it you could make it down, Jane.
Great!
Thanks for the response and the invitation! I would love to come to your meeting, but I unfortunately have class that evening (I'm a grad student). However the Widernet director, Cliff Missen, expressed interest in speaking with you via Elluminate -- do you have access to a projector at your meeting site? If not he may be able to drive to Ames, although I'm sure he'd prefer web conferencing if at all possible.
I'm glad you're interested in the project. We are hoping to find Drupal enthusiasts at the U of I and get them involved as well, so this would certainly be a chance to connect them with your group.
I will also look into the Organic Groups module and see if that might fit our needs. I hadn't heard of that one yet.
Jane

I live in Iowa City and have done volunteer work for Widernet in the past. About 90% of my work is done through Drupal and on sites similar to what your discussing. Free to send me a message through my contact form.
