User group meeting

The 10th meetup for the Tampa Bay Drupal Users Group is this Thursday, June 2nd @ 6pm.

For this meetup, Mike will be presenting about the awesome module known as Features. Features allows for the exporting of content from one Drupal site to another, with your configurations (mostly) intact and I for one can't wait to learn more about how this works!

The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, at the usual location — Panera on Ulmerton Road:
2285 Ulmerton Rd.
Clearwater, FL 3376

There is a $50 charge to use their meeting room, but any food purchases are deducted from this cost, so come hungry (for food as well as Drupal knowledge)!

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Recap

I didn't take my usual notes during this meeting, but Mike went over the Features module (plus Strongarm). Was a great presentation, and showed the strengths and a few minor gotchas to watch out for.

We also had some pretty general conversation, and discussed some problems some folks are having with their own Drupal projects and attempted to offer some troubleshooting guidance.

In addition we planned out the next few meeting topics:

  • July - Adam will show the Context module
  • August - Michelle will show the Content Templates (Contemplate)
  • September - Willow will show Panels

* I could be wrong about these, as I didn't take notes...but that's what I recall :)

I brought up the topic of figuring out additional ways we can contribute to Drupal, beyond these very beneficial meetups. I myself am interested in how to get involved in contributing code, and maybe getting involved in a Drupal 8 initiative. But others brought up additional ways that you can help, like documentation. In that regard we talked about maybe recording our meetup topic discussions as a way to get more training material out there. I know some of the other FL groups do this, so maybe we could look to those for examples, or working practices. Definitely a topic worth more discussion in my opinion :)

Until we get somewhere on the recording of meetings, I brought up having the presenter at least write a synopsis of their topic to post on the site here. So at a minimum we'd have something to jog our memories regarding the presentation.

That's all I can recall, looking forward to the next meetup.
