Laptop Setup

amax's picture

Hi Heather, for the Drupal Ireland Meeting workshops, what version of drupal (and modules) should we install on our laptops so we can follow along. Cant wait

Drupal 6, ftw!

heather's picture

I would say Drupal 6. But I think Scor was talking about showing stuff with Drupal 7 as well (contributing to Drupal core).

I was trying to look into the Drupal-on-a-stick option, but it sounds implausible. This opens a can of worms, depending on how much hands-on we want to cover.

Do you think it's too much to ask.. If people want to play along, we will have to notify them to install Drupal (and if they need to MAMP/LAMP/ or whatever windows user use) locally on their machines beforehand... Or they can download on the day. Hm... Hmmm... Yeah, it's a tiny can of worms.

Do we get them to download the necessary contrib modules as well? Hmm...

My first presentation is a site solely in Drupal 6 core installation (out of the box website; using books, forums, aggregator, fun fun).
My second, in the afternoon, fills the gap with pretty much the only thing I see missing in core which is image handling. I'll use imagefield, however, this implies installing CCK.
The site I'm working on for both demos is the same, so the tutorials fit together.

I'm trying to keep contrib modules to a minimum just for the sake of simplicity.

I was talking with Stella the other night however, I think it would be good to show people the must have set as well- because admin looks so different with admin menu, vertical tabs, WYSIWYG. But I'll leave that for someone else to show off :)

What do others think? How can we best manage hands-on activities?

Have fun

Hope you all have fun and that there'll be some write-ups on how it went.

Car Park

RockyRoad-gdo's picture

Hello,

Will it be possible to park my car for free (or cheap) in or around DIT for the event ?
What would you suggest ?

TIA

RockyRoad: I'm not aware of

daniel.hunt's picture

RockyRoad: I'm not aware of any free parking in the area, sorry. The nearest car park I know of is about a 10 minute walk from DIT, in St Stephen's Green shopping centre!

I see the map is down on the DIT site, so you can use this one if you want:

CARPARKING

heya- when come to DIT kevin street campus, you'll enter to the building through a car park. however, it maybe full today, though you can try.

if you continue around the corner (with DIT carpark at your left) and take your first left, there is free on-street parking there on Saturdays.

I hope there is a spot there waiting for you!

Thanks

Thanks to Heather, Stella, the presenters, DIT, and everybody else involved in organising the event. It was a great informative day and has given me a new buzz about my new Drupal site which has been left half-developed for the past 6 months. Tony.

I really enjoyed the day -

I'm hooked....

I'm a complete newbie and had never heard of Drupal until recently. I have yet to use it but I was so impressed with how much information I came away with from today that I am at this moment currently installing it.
Congratulations to everybody involved in organising the event, I will definitely be attending future ones!

Thank you!!!

I just want to say a major thank you to everyone who came to the Drupal Meet-up today! It was great to see such a great turnout and to meet lots of great people. I hope to see you all again at the next Drupal Ireland event, which will be even better and bigger!

I especially want to thank our sponsors again - CivicActions, Indytech, Lynda.com and of course, special thanks to Deirdre and the School of Computing in DIT.

Cheers,
Stella
