CCK Gmap, Location, proximity search... oh my head is spinning...

Hey everyone,

I've managed to make some excellent progress on my webpage thanks to help from some community members. Some of you may remember I asked about how to establish custom regions. I followed all of the basic instructions everywhere, even sat with some one and got the layout working perfectly... and then low and behold it would not work when put on my webhost. I did find a work around, which was to establish the regions by editing the engine code itself... which isn't ideal, but did in the end solve my problem.

Now I'm running into a new fiasco. I've got a large collection of businesses, and I am trying to store their address and display it using CCK_gmap. This works great when viewing the specific node, as it displays a fancy embedded gmap just as I would like, and all of that is just what I want.

Now I am having issues sorting out how I would go about searching by proximity. I've tried a myriad of different issues. I'll list them below for you all:

  • First tried running a seperate location to store the addresses via the location module. I figured I would just enter the address in twice for the node, and only display one to the user. The other would then use locations stock proximity search view. For some odd reason however the data entered into the location field is never retained, and therefore is unsearchable. WTF MATE?
  • Next I tried adding gmap_latlon or what have you, that stores latitude and longitude data from CCK_gmap and should make it all searchable with the gmap proximity module for views. These three modules should all be bundled together in a functional manner, but they aren't, and I can't figure out for the life of me how to configure a view for all of this. Plus how the heck do I even set the page up so users can pass arguments to this view

Anyways, that is where I am currently stuck. Hopefully I've been detailed enough. As always I would really appreciate the help, and I can pay you back in dinner and beer, or maybe you want some snowboard product, or whatever really. Thanks in advance, and i really look forward to learning how to make all this work with some one else who works with Drupal a lot more than I do!

Thanks,
Jesse
