Below are thoughts and ideas as presented by each person attending:

Drupal 7 tips:
José Tavares
-- Use the most installed modules.
-- Theming in version 7 is the same as in version 6.

Carol
-- Feeds replaced aggregators.
-- Secure login module affects site.
-- Ubercart – use version 6, version 7 is not ready yet.

Drupal upgrades
David:
-- Front end is not too difficult and back end administration is much easier.
-- Can create custom form fields better in version 7 than in 6.
-- “Views” has moved quickly [to upgrade].
-- Drush (Drupal shell/ package on server) module created an interface “exportables”
-- Administrative tasks rather than GUI, can download/ install/ enable
-- Install Drush in Linux, not in modules folder, then install Drupal
-- Linux servers: rackspace/ cloud based
-- VPS.net
-- Linode
-- Look for shell access or limited shell access instead of cpanel – use command line
-- Linux – a combination of many tools or operators
-- Drush command line tool “Git”
-- “Aegir” – platform for hosting mechanism. Can install Drupal and update all your sites. Manages complex Drupal hosting environment; all command lines.
-- Aegir is good for Drupal e-commerce.

Hector:
-- Good video to watch from Drupalcon Chicago from Dmitri (15 year old wiz kid). See archive.org “Drupalcon Cihcago”
-- Groups.Drupal.org “Drupal Support is a quieter channel
-- IRC.Freenote.net – Drupal help
-- Some 6 modules will not work or be upgraded to 7.
-- Drupal 7.1 is out.
-- South Florida Android Group meetup takes place at Miami Shared (miamishared.com, $5 parking).
-- Meetup.com – resource of all meetings in South Florida.

-- IPad apps & Jquery
-- Flash-like effects w/ Jquery & CSS3

David
-- Drupal and Jquery custom animations at pgeinc.com – carrousel effect. Owner can edit the home page content type “feature spot.” Home page has node references “view slideshow.”
-- Focus is the editing of the site module = “EZ edit” after hover can edit on- the-fly
-- Layout - panels or context
-- Conditional Fields module makes the home page editable
-- Join.me – universal web-based free conference calls.
-- Used another module (better than Taxonomy Module) allowing complex hierarchical categories (name to be provided).

Luis Salazar
-- Working with videos
-- Working with freetagging; having trouble with tagging client role – only view taxonomy vocabulary

Carol
-- Freetagging is good but too open; a more structured set or browsable categories [is better].
-- Use arguments – in version 7 is “context”
-- Aardvark.com – Drupal questions and answers

Drupal Site Workshop
-- Took place on June 9 at 6:30pm; see Hector’s notes on GDO.

Gigi
-- (Unrelated to Drupal) is beside herself with JOY after figuring out how to create a Facebook Welcome Tab app for Miami Children's Hospital:
