Topics

Ah, the Pittsburgh (and surrounding areas) Drupal community comest through again! We'll still keep things informal, but here's a tentative agenda:

  • Group Workshop: Tell or show us about your situation in 5 minutes or less, we'll talk about it until 15 mins is up. Volunteer to share, or if there are a lot of folks who want to groupsource, we'll put names in a hat and pick 'em at random.
  • Hello, Module!: One of the basic concepts in Drupal is the module system. Lee- shares the basics of module-building, and how modules interact with other layers of Drupal's architecture
  • Ubercart + Authorize.net CIM: nitrosx shares his experience building integration between Drupal's e-commerce powerhouse and Authorize.net's Customer Information Manager

And, per usual, pizza and good company. This month the pizza is being sponsored by Nove, Inc.. Feel free to bring additional eats or drinks to share!

August Meeting

Hi Mark.

Looks like a lack of interest for next week. I was going to try to offer our conference room again, but perhaps too many people are on vacation this month? Maybe we should bump to September.

I have a theme/topic for an upcoming meeting. Acquia has provided me with a canned training course called "Hello Drupal!". I am going to be offering it as a free class on a regular schedule, but maybe the first showing could be at a DUG meeting? It can run anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours. You can see a description of it at http://training.acquia.com/hellodrupal.

Let me know what you think.

I would attend the Hello Drupal training from Acquia.

Meeting Topic

I was going to suggest viewing a video from DrupalCon - i.e. I just finished watching the video on Drupal Commerce in D7. We can pick any video people might be interested in. I'm interested in attending this month. I think people just may not feel competent to present and so they aren't responding.

I would like to hear more about PHP especially as its used in Drupal. Specifically, custom theme settings, making good use of Drupal's API, how a module works, etc.
I want to increase my knowledge of this even though I'm involved in the front-end.

Drupal APIs and Drush

Two meetings ago (I think) there was an talk on the most excellent Drush which makes all of Drupal at your disposal from the command line. Install drush and play in your sandbox a bit - you won't regret it!

It also (with an additional include file) integrates wonderfully with CiviCRM - an interface I've been using recently to help Democracy Now! upgrade their web store through which donations are made.

I would be interested in the

I would be interested in the D7 Commerce video from Drupalcon. I suppose we could all watch those at home if we wanted to instead (and I'm sure many of us do), but if no one is going to present it seems like a fine alternative.

There's also the option of having a different style meeting just this once, maybe open call and response problem solving or something of the like.

I am in favor of mixing up the style a bit...

I was thinking we should do an open-workshop session. People could put their names in a hat, we'll draw one at a time. You'd get 5 minutes to show what you're trying to solve and we could all bang our heads against it for 10 or 15 minutes, then draw another.

Waiting to hear from Bruce about a room. Clearly there is interest! If he can't get the conf. room, any suggestions for a space? We could even see about dragging the projector and screen to a bar or restaurant somewhere.

We are going to try to be

If anybody is interested, I can talk about ubercart and the integration with authorize.net CIM service that I'm working on.
It's not public yet, but I'm planning to release it as module.

I'll be coming down from

I'll be coming down from Youngstown with one or two of my colleagues. We've been wanting to join you for the past few meetings, but the timing just hasn't worked out. Glad the meeting is coming together.

I'll be there

I like the idea of the open-workshop sessions. I'm glad we're still having the meeting.

I won't be able to attend this month. If someone else wants to do the streaming, contact me by private message and I will get you the information to do the recording.

Hello, Module files

Lee-'s picture

A couple people commented they'd like the files, so here they are. I added a few comments to hopefully help you to follow along. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

This is a great little "cheat sheet" for the most common module operations - useful for someone like me who writes modules rarely enough that I always forget some of the basic structure.
