Set default language for new content and UI components

One thing that is quite complicated to automate for a site is to be able to set the default language for new content to something else than "Language neutral", especially if the site only has one language.

Not until you add the i18n module you seem to have this option.

Since the language is also used in the markup and will be picket up by search engines, screen readers and other applications, it wold be real nice if there was an option to set the default language when creating new content. "admin/config/regional/language" already have a column for this, but it is not used for this.

This is also important for when an existing site adds a second language. All existing content will then, in most cases, be language neutral and someone will have to manually go over it and set the correct language before it is ready for being translated.

This also needs to be sorted for UI components, such as menus. In those experiments I have done, it is not easy to get a smooth and transparent workflow for this. Drupal should use the default language setting for all content, especially text based, when adding things like menus.

I believe if we can sort this, basic, stuff out it will make things so much easier for building sites that have more than one language. It would also make the life of those who need the content read for them (blind people) easier since the site will tell their applications what language the content is in.
