Hi All

It is that time of the year again, time for Drupal Camp 2011. The event has been targeted for the 17th September.

We would like to get a feel for some of the topics you would like to see at the event.

Some suggestions have been:

  • Clone that site (Clone the functionality of an existing site using Drupal)
  • Drupal Integration
  • Different streams such as (Design etc.)

Please add your comments and suggestions.

Thanks

Robin

What about some of the very

What about some of the very interesting new and in development projects, especially for Drupal 7;
Storm
Organic Groups for v7
These are 2 I am eagerly awaiting.

And the venue for Drupal Camp 2011?

We should also look at the

We should also look at the date. I know we chose 17 of September in a previous meet, but it turns out that is the same date as the Software Freedom Day, which we will likely participate in as well.

Do we want the Drupal Camp to be a separate event from our involvement in the S.F.D. event, or should we combine them?

And to add to the ideas of things we could do:
- a code sprint
- build a site for a charity organisation
- Drupal install fest, helping people to get up and running using Drupal
- build a site in a day, based on ideas put forward by people attending in the morning.

In a previous meetup it was also suggested that we could target businesses and government more. So ideas around that would be welcome too.

Normally held in Joburg in the Bryanston Campus, Le Mans building: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Trent+Crescent++Bryanston,+Sandton,+Gauten...

Not 100% accurate of where it is, but in the ballpark :)

A summary of the Joburg DRUG meetings

What about looking at the real business challenges of using Drupal.. e.g.

  • Building and maintaining many similar sites with features
  • Teams working on the same code (versioning with git)
  • Working without content - The Development, Staging, Live workflow
  • Managing many sites - AEgir
  • Internal communication and intranet - Atrium
  • Scaleability and performance - Varnish, etc. (not my strongest suite)

iirc this is mostly what's come up in the Joburg group.

What format does the SA Drupal camp take? I am interested in coming down to Cape Town for a day to chat to people if you want to talk about these topics. I'll share everything that we learned migrating The Economist to Drupal, as well as subsequent work at Four Kitchens.

I don't have a presentation but if there is significant interest in one particular aspect I may be able to put one together. :)

Location

The Drupal Camp will be in Jozi, probably at IS again, but this is still to be confirmed.

The date is also not fixed as yet, will probably know more after the next meetup.

Thanks so far for all the suggestions.

Guys, sorry we are new here. Where is this IS located in JHB. We would like to take part and see how we can add value to the community. How much is the attendance fee?

Thank you

IS is in the Bryanston Campus, Le Mans building (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Trent+Crescent++Bryanston,+Sandton,+Gauten...) - on the other side of Trent Cres (can anyone tell me how to move a marker and only then share the link?)

The format has been some presentations happening in the main room while there are some seasoned Drupalistas outside answering more specific questions. We may do something else this year tho, we're still discussing it.

Iirc, entrance is free, if we get enough sponsors - if we don't, it won't be too pricey, don't worry ;) - Watch this space tho - most of what you ask hasn't even been formalised yet :)
