It's about time that we here on the sparsely populated Western Slope get together to flex our collective Drupal might!
I would like to propose that this meetup focus on topics around moving to and deploying projects on Drupal 7. Most of the significant contrib modules are in rc or late beta stage, and most folks would agree that Drupal 7 is ready for pretty regular sites. We've just started evaluating Drupal 7 in earnest for upgrades for some of our more demanding clients currently on Drupal 6 and (ahem) Drupal 5. There are a lot of tantalizing new features, but there's also a lot to learn, and some modules are not quite there yet.
I'd like to welcome folks with presentations on moving to Drupal 7. Topics may include:
- Best Practices. What's new in site building in Drupal 7? What old habits do we need to break.
- Themeing. The render API and what it means for upgrading themes and custom modules.
- Module building. Hooks old and new. The new DB layer and rewriting/testing queries. How to leverage the render API. What the heck are entities and fields and what do they mean for modules?
- Content Management and Site Administration. How to best configure a site for content management and administrative usability.
- Dev/Build/Deploy. Tips, tools and tricks for streamlining the code development, test and deployment process. What's new in Drupal 7? How to use Features for deployment management.
- CTools. How to best leverage CTools in site building and feature management.
There's a lot we can talk about as always. I would be happy to make a presentation on entities. I have some learning to do in that area for sure. Other presentations are welcome.
We would be happy to host at Lucks Digital world headquarters, 1101 Village Rd. #LL4D in Carbondale.
Can anybody bring a projector?

Would love to have come, but
Would love to have come, but will be leaving for Drupalcon that day. Have a great meeting!
Sounds great!
Ned,
I think it's a great theme for the meet-up. Thanks for taking the initiative and setting up a date. I'd be willing to present on DBTNG, as I think I understand it fairly well, but "damnit Jim, I'm a project manager, not a programmer!" so not sure if I'd be able to field difficult or esoteric questions on the topic. I could simply say, here's the old way of writing this query, and here's the new way, and talk about integration with PDO, etc. That said, there must be someone out there who knows more about this than I do?
Word nerd!

Got Bots?
Let me see if I can find any Colorado Bots who might want to come up and visit/help present.

but don't think I can. it would have to work around my work schedule which is a bit tight at the moment, and my wife has a doctors appointment wednesday that I can't miss.
Features, Git, Drupal Commerce
I'd be happy to demonstrate the Features + Git workflow we've been using recently.
I'll be diving in to Drupal Commerce (D7 only) pretty soon, so I might be able to talk about the basics of it. It leverages a lot of Drupal 7 native stuff, so it might serve as a good case study of how one might harness Drupal 7.
Drupal Rooms
Another Drupal 7 distribution under active development is Drupal Rooms.
It might be worth kicking the tires of that distribution to see some Drupal 7 techniques in action.
I'll bring a projector.

I'm headed over the hill for this one! I can go over some DBTNG but I'd rather talk WYSIWYG API which is a not-so-well-known API you can leverage when building powerful backends.
+1 for getting a better
+1 for getting a better handle on WYSIWYG usage. I'd love to hear more about that.
I could talk about a "site-built" theme in D7...
...using Omega, Delta, Context to rock a complex theme without writing a line of html or php. Just add CSS!
