Next Meetup?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. Just wondering when the next meetup would be, and who we could drag in this time to speak.

Here are some things I'd like to hear someone talk about:

  1. Using hooks
  2. Drush
  3. Simple Module Development
  4. Geo Location
  5. Mobile Development

Have a great weekend.

Those topics interest me as well. I second Brandon's query, and look forward to going to my first meet up with you folks.

Cheers,

Hoping to see more interest in a meetup this fall too!

Count me in for a September/October meetup, too!

CiviCRM

Hey guys - it certainly feels like summer is over after today's temperatures eh?

Brandon's topics sound good to me, but I just finished a project dealing with CiviCRM (www.civicrm.org) and I could be persuaded to present an overview of CiviCRM...ie:
- why you may or may not want to use it
- a quick look under the hood
- my use case as an example

I'm by no means an expert in CiviCRM, but I'd be willing to throw something together which could potentially be useful.

Let me know if anyone's interested in it...

Great suggestion - we've used

Great suggestion - we've used civicrm as well with various degrees of success. There is some good stuff there - our issue has been in the customization.

We are still looking to confirm a speaker and a date -

21st now won't work - I'll confirm ASAP.

Yes, CiviCRM is a very feature-rich system, but there's a learning curve, and yes, customization seems difficult.

My focus was on aggregating contacts from several legacy databases (events people participated in, etc), to bring them into the centralized CiviCRM database. So I used the API for importing, and I did a lot of custom work to clean the incoming contact data and match duplicates. Now, they can mass email their contacts according to groups (segmented by the events they attended, etc), and they now have a running history on each contact (events attended, changes of address/phone #s, etc).

If there's any interest in the group for this, I am will to present something. My schedule is quite flexible, so just about any day of that week (19th +) would work for me, or later on in the month, etc.

On another note, I would also like to profile our group's skills, experience, and interests as they pertain to Drupal and tech in general. I'm really curious to see what everyone can do, what they want to do, and what they need help with.

I can volunteer to put this together, to have it (hopefully) ready for the next meeting and discuss the results. Of course no one would have to fill it out, and the info wouldn't be too personal, but I really believe it'd be very useful for us to know.

Cheers & thanks for your thoughts,
- Dwight

Hi Dwight - the meetup is finalized now for the 27th and we will still be looking for a presenter. Would you be interested in talking CiviCRM on that day?

Shoot, I'll be in Nyc recovering from my United Way bike tour on the 27th. Any chance someone might record or livestream? Would certainly like to know more about CiviCRM

Sure, I think I can make the 27th work if everyone's up for it...

Can you organize the location and equipment Andrew?

Thanks & congratulations on the London/LEDC award!
