I made this to celebrate the launch of our latest site http:/www.bedfordtw.co.uk
Happy to send the PSD to anyone who would like it. Planning on making a full poster version of one of the orgional Star Wars posters with a Drupal related twist. Any help from an illustrator or character artist would be welcome.
As well as suggestions for characters, etc. Any related photos of people in a similar poses would be welcome too.

Great illustration! What other characters did you have in mind? I have some illustration background. I'm very new to this Drupal thing but I can draw. :-)
I'm picturing the classic Star Wars poster with the heroic poses of the featured characters from the center out but I'm not sure what characters you'd insert there... Module heroes, maybe?

I started on this a while back.
Hey I started on this a while back. Its a lot of work for any one person and TBH I haven't had the time recently.
But I have some assets I've been tinkering with.
Easiest way is going to be to get Pics of the relevant characters in their respective poses.
So I think we need to maybe get the Core Contribs to submit some pics, despite some Googling I was unable to find decent pics.
Might launch a Drupal Gardens site and request people send in pics and crowd source this.
Are you interested in contributing on this?

Ideas so far (courtesy of Tony Groff) and others include:
font/typography stuff with the X-Wing and Tie Fighters might work... perhaps 3D brackets or some such ( ) }-0-{... <? ?>... just trying to brainstorm some technologies in and around Drupal, LAMP, Nginx, SQL/DB, Views, Fields - May the Fields be with you. :)
Leia = Webchick (obviously not as provocatively dressed :), Luke = Dries, perhaps Earl Miles = Han, Johan Falk (nodeone.se) = C3PO... difficult thinking of who can be Darth... how about AlexUA as Darth?
Larry Garfield = Chewbacca, Jeff Eaton = Obi-wan, and... Tux the Linux penguin as R2-D2? As for a Tie Fighter.... could you do something with the (--PhP--) logo to turn that into a Tie Fighter type of thing?
Think of X wings (X Cache?) and Y wings? Plus Tatooine and more.

People might find art ideas crazy, but I personally find it enthusing (in a good way).
Let the art fun begin! (as long as people don't find it offensive or plagiarizing).

Basically you would need permission to use likenesses and so on and so forth.
But the main thing is that Drupal is a community so you just have to be sensitive. Personally I think we'll have people fighting to be Vader, but some people not like to connotation.
Equally as designer/artist you need to feel supported/encouraged.
Happy to share rights/GNU work if that makes people happier.
No idea what the US/UK legal stance is on work inspired by......

I do agree with most of your points.
I also agree that for the sake of art, cynicism and strong opinions isn't the criteria to beat but rather, a simple reminder that our brain's left-hemisphere should take a break once in a while.

I'm all for the creative, artsy side road once in a while. It's good for the muse. Thanks for the great article on caricatures! I have done some in the past and it's always a fun exchange of energy.
Yes, that was the exact poster I was thinking of. Please forgive me because I'm very new to the forums so I'm not really familiar with all the more well known members. I'll follow your lead! I can sketch the storyboards if that will help.

On my very long to do list, I am going to make a Drupal Gardens site with this in mind and then allow people to join and add their submissions.
Total filesize limit for Drupal Gardens in 50mb I think, but that should be enough till the PSDs start flying.
I'm no pro on who's who on Drupal, but my olders and wisers recommended these. More than a few times at DCon I found myself talking to someone who later turns out to have been a core contrib or module developer whose work I have used in my own! Thats the beauty of Drupal I think.
I think in the credits maybe we should get all the names of the Core Contribs in there? (If there's room).
Much appreciated. Haven't had a great deal of time on this recently, but I'm currently doing a lot of Illustrator work, so happy to roll what you've sketched out into that.
If we need more space, I've got plenty on DropBox.

have now created http://anewhope.drupalgardens.com/ and plan on spending a bit of time each week getting it up and running.
Homepage - Rotating gallery, with New Hope poster juxtaposed next to a cut out version with question marks on it, showing who is who and who should be who? How to get involved. Recent updates. Twitter feed?
Forum - General + link to whatever file repository we use? Git hub perhaps?
FAQ - Why we're doing this. Who gets in on the first posters (most influential to date perhaps). How to get involved.
Contact - get involved. Will make an email just for this we can share.
Will add all major contributors as admins if possible (not sure to be honest!).
Maybe a rotating quotes gallery with a Drupal Theme. E.g. Help me Dries, your my only hope..... etc.
Should be fun.
Related links and attributions on everything so we don't fall foul of anything.
Any other thoughts welcome.

K site is setup and some very minimal theming done
Setup the Drupal site and threw in some rough images for now.
Any further input here is welcome. Wil try and get around to sorting out the contact form so you can send me emails securely, or DM/PM me. I need emails to invite users I think. Could be wrong, but if you sign up and in, I'll get around to giving you access.
By all means make/change images, just some holding page stuff for now.
