I'm excited to update you that today we have officially launched our open source video module for Drupal.
Kaltura's All in One Video Module enables Drupal site-builders to easily add video and rich-media functionalities to their sites.
The module handles all aspects of adding video, including full hosting and streaming of content. It is extremely flexible, easy to customize and best of all – it's free – Kaltura covers up to 10GB of hosting and streaming (can later be upgraded).
It was designed specifically for Drupal and seamlessly integrates with several key Drupal features and modules, including CCK, Views, cron, tags and taxonomy, and user permissions.
The current release is for Drupal 6, and a Drupal 5 version is planned in the next few weeks.
You can download it in http://www.drupal.org/project/kaltura
We set up a demo Drupal site in http://drupal.kaltura.org/ and a sandbox Drupal site, to play around with the module, in http://drupal.kaltura.org/demo/
Please help us improve by sharing your feedback in our forums http://community.kaltura.org/index.php

Kaltura in Drupal Multimedia
Aaron Winborn talks about Kaltura in his Drupal Multimedia book, which I found odd since no module existed to merge both platforms. I can't wait to test it out and provide feedback. Nice work!
Looks amazing
I've been playing around with the Kaltura module and it really looks promising. One great feature is the customizable wizard that enables end users to upload media or embed external media (similar to emfield). What I'm not sure about is if Kaltura provides a way to 'push' media out to other video, audio, and photo sharing sites (something discussed in this thread).

Permissions
Whoa, dude. You haven't checked the permissions on your demo account at http://drupal.kaltura.org/demo
Looks like the demo/demo person has all kinds of admin permissions that might you might not want to give.
'push' media out
gusaus,
Can you explain what do you mean exactly saying "not sure about is if Kaltura provides a way to 'push' media out to other ... sharing sites"?
If you're talking about embed codes (so the content could be published elsewhere), our player component supports that feature (including the option to post directly into popular sites like facebook, myspace etc.).
RSS feeds with enclosures
I'm not sure, but when I here about pushing media - that is what I think of.
Cross posting, too
Could also mean in the style of Media Mover, who lets users actually migrate media files to or from a third party video sharing site such as Blip.tv. That is the other way I think of as pushing media.
Licensing and feeds
Hello,
I've spent some time looking over the demo account, and it's a great looking service. A couple questions:
Is it possible to download content created on Kaltura for archiving purposes (ie, a school uses Kaltura to create videos, but they want to archive a local copy)?
As asked above, does the Kaltura integration generate rss feeds with the proper media enclosures?
Thanks,
Bill

Yes and Yes
1. download
for Media Nodes download is a trivial task - for each media node, as part of the metadata, a download link is stored. this link holds the url of the original content, and can be accessed easily via views.
This also answers the question about feeds and media enclosure. you can easily create such a feed by using the drupal views - all the metadata exists locally.
for Media Remixes nodes the mixes should be "flattened" in order to be downloaded.
This could be done by some settings for the partner you will be using, and adding a "Download" button on the player for your partner. if you wish this to happen, contact support@kaltura.com
if, on the other hand, you feel like digging in yourself, you can get this directly from the kaltura API
see the guide for downloading a mix http://corp.kaltura.com/wiki/index.php/Guides:Download_Mix
and the "Add download" API method
http://corp.kaltura.com/wiki/index.php/KalturaAPI:main
2.rss feed
as you see the URL is part of the metadata of drupal. you can easily create such a feed youself using views.

I was asking about Cross-posting, I guess... i.e. having the ability to distribute your media to YouTube, Blip.tv, Flickr, etc. Sort of an all in one uploader and distributor for content producers that we're talking about in this thread - http://groups.drupal.org/node/16846
Generating RSS feeds w/ the proper enclosures would be nice also!

hot discussion and then ...
So, what is the answer to gusaus' last question?
Filed a feature request
I went ahead and filed a feature request regarding cross-posting/uploading to multiple sites - http://drupal.org/node/353669
That would truly make this a killer all in one solution for content producers!

NYC and beyond
Hey Ariel! I believe the current sprint is wrapping up tomorrow in NYC. There will be ongoing 'virtual' sprints in the Drupal Dojo mentoring group. There has been some pretty amazing progress over the past few days, and Kaltura has been used many times for inspiration. Would be great to have you involved in the ongoing collaboration!
