Hey all, I have been investigating the cost of collocating a server in the area or within a reasonable driving distance. I'm curious if anyone has any idea of where to look. I haven't done extensive calling/looking.
What I Am Looking For
1U to start maybe 3U later
10Mb/s or higher interconnect (preferably uncapped) I plan on doing 500Gb/month or more in transfer.
I have currently looked
Springfield underground
Their plans seems very "cheap" or rather odd with capped internet.
$50 per 1U
$40 for 2 amps? (im not sure)
$50 for 50GB caped connected with a 10Mb/s interconnect
Branson Underground
Their plans were very high-class and geared toward big hosts.
Their lowest plan starts at half a rack (21U's) for $595/month which I believe includes power. You negotiate your network pipe with the in house fiber carriers. I can't seem to remember them but they were all big national names. No idea what those costs would be.
Suddenlink
Doesn't have any services like this.
Century Link
Pending
Carwin what was that wireless ISP that RCS use to use?

Springnet/85Under
Did you get your quote from Springnet directly, or 85Under (Which resells space at Springnets DC)? I recently got a quote from Springnet, but the smallest space they offered was 1/3 rack. At some point in the future (Early spring, with any luck) I am looking to get a 1/3 rack, and at that point I would offer to co-locate to others. More info on that project coming soon :)
85Under might be the way to go if you only want one server, but the marketing on their website indicates that they are totally clueless, so I would not expect much support from them- might not be a problem for you, though. In general, the Internet link will be much more expensive in Springfield than in Kansas City or St. Louis. I couldn't find too many sites with prices, but I did find this one- http://joesdatacenter.com/Server_Colo.html. If your willing to locate 3 hrs away, it might be worth it.
If your not in a hurry, we can talk about my upcoming project and the possibility of you getting space at Springnet from that.
Joes Data Center has some
Joes Data Center has some great prices. What a great find!
I'm pretty sure I got the quote from 85Under. I completely agree about them being "clueless". Their communication was very vague and unprofessional. Conversely, the lady I talked to at Branson Underground (they have a proper name) was very professional and knowledgeable about their services and options. She was very surprised to hear I was local to the area which tells me they are more national.
No, I'm not in a hurry. I have no defined dates or anything. I'm in the planning/exploring phase right now. After looking around and seeing that Amazon is really some of the best deals I was able to find as far as flexibility and cost for dedicated or VPS hosting I started looking for other options entirely. Ideally I would have a giant pipe of internet flowing into my house but sense the internet is just a "series of tubes" we know thats not a realistic option. When you start getting numbers together for your project feel free to contact me, I'm interested. Though I can't guarantee my participation at this point.
See you at the next meetup!
Centurytel
I believe RCS used Centurytel at the old building. Or maybe it's Centurylink, something like that.
Rystec / Tri-lakes Internet colocation services in Branson
I work for a broadband company in Branson that also offers colocation services in that area. Our upstream connection is provided by Springnet. If your interested feel free to give Marc Rys a call @ 417-973-0135.
