Drupal+Microdata article on IBM developerWorks

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

IBM developerWorks asked me to do a series of articles on microdata. They just published the first article, Combine Drupal, HTML5, and microdata (it really talks about the microdata part of HTML5, rather than the more core parts that we're dealing with in the HTML5 initiative).

In the article, I show how you can add microdata support for field formatters. I don't plan to go to beta until we have more support... the API needs more test implementations in field formatters and review to ensure that it makes sense, so if you want to join in that effort, I'd be happy to have a few more hands and eyes :)

You can get involved by creating patches for field formatters in contrib, posting them in issues for the field formatter's module, and pinging me to let me know. I'll be sure to review it and add it to the list of field formatters with microdata support in progress.

This really helped me understand the distinction between Schema.org and Microdata

Schema.org is a vocabulary that works well with microdata.

Thanks, glad to hear it

I wrote a second article in the series, but it isn't so Drupal related (except for featuring some DrupalCamps), Make HTML5 microdata useful, Part 1: Using jQuery on top of microdata

I think there will be a third as well which will touch more on the Drupal work again.

There's now a third (and I

There's now a third (and I think final) article in the microdata series. It explains how we could use microdata to pull useful documentation out of Drupal Planet blog posts and make them easily navigable.

Make HTML5 microdata useful, Part 2: Next generation aggregation with microdata

Very timely

I have just started using feeds for a project and your example of a diverse community aggregating content is exactly the sort of thing I want to achieve. Thanks.
