db upgrade problem solved, but user-vsites no longer accessible in the successfully (no errors reported) upgraded site

First- in case anyone else encoutners similar experiences with failures in updating a b10 installation to b11 and later, there are apparently TWO releases for b10 - the first b10 released in Feb 28 2011 and a second b10 released in Apr 22 2011. Not aware of the second b10 release, I was attempting to upgrade the first b10 to b11 and later. After upgrading b10 (Feb 28) to b10-1 (Apr 22), I am able to upgrade to b11 and later without the major errors and upgrade-aborts I've been experiencing. (a great relief!)

Unfortunately now however, even after a successful db update (no errors reported) all of the user-vsite URLs result in a "page not found" error - even after the first b10 -> b10-1 update. (and it doesnt get any better continuing with the others). Previously, in the working b10 (Feb 28 release) site, a user-vsite URL would be:

 http://www.site.edu/username/firstname-lastname

...which would then then resolve to:

 http://www.site.edu/username/home

...and the vsite would be displayed, with all links and URLs working as expected.

On the b10-1 (and later) upgraded site however, the default URL of "http://www.site.edu/username/firstname-lastname" does not change to "http://www.site.edu/username/home" and simply results in a "page not found" error. Additionally, manually entering the URL of "http://www.site.edu/username/home" results in the same error. Is there a setting I am missing, such as something that needs to be manually changed or reset after the upgrade process that will allow the user-vistes to be made accessible? Thank you in advance for any suggestions..

solved!

in case anyone else encounters this, thanks to help from rbrandon it was isolated as an issue with the b11 update mechanism not applying updates to the "vsite_layout" update correctly. After manually changing the version of the "vsite_layout" update to 6001 (rather than use the defaults) and running the b11 update several times, the upgraded b10 site looked/worked as expected. thank you again for the help!
