Call for Topics:
Please reply with suggested topics for our November Drupal Accessibility Skype Meeting.
Tuesday, December 13, 2011
5pm UTC-GMT / 11am CST
on Skype (contact m.gifford or brandonbowersox on Skype to be added to the group if this is your first time joining)
Anyone interested in working on Accessibility using Drupal is invited.
Please respond with suggested topics
The call is a voice conference call on Skype. We'll be asking for a volunteer to post notes to the g.d.o. group so that people who could not attend can still review the notes and post comments. We will try to limit the main agenda to one hour.
This a regular monthly event the Second Tuesday of each month.
What would you like us to discuss this month?

I'd like us to discuss
I'd like us to discuss http://drupal.org/node/1361218
Currently, when you press enter on an element in a vertical tab pane focus moves to the tab button.
I don't recall being a super big fan of the functionality in the first place (although it's possible that the issue comments will refresh my memory).

We should also discuss
We should also discuss http://drupal.org/node/1361102
This is to make an analogous setting in Field UI for invisible labels as we have in Form API.

Review needed
I'd love to see a final review of http://drupal.org/node/1183042 before, or after the call. This patch adds WAI-ARIA roles to Core blocks.
If anyone needs more details about the approach taken we can discuss on the call.

Simplify names of "element-x"
Simplify names of "element-x" helper classes
Basically a, IMO reasonable, request to remove the 'element-' prefix.

DrupalCon a11y sprint?
Should we organize an accessibility sprint at DrupalCon Denver?

I think user testing would be
I think user testing would be great but would Drupalcon be the place for this? I feel like we may want to have outside users do this and we can even accomplish this through something like GoToMeeting or Adobe Connect.
I have accessibility documentation but it includes JAWS. I'm more than happy to update it for NVDA and VoiceOver if we think that's what people will use the most.

I think it might be worth while having a brief intro to the work that's being done in Canada around the Government of Canada's WET Tookit. It's described here in a bit more detail:
http://tbs-sct.ircan-rican.gc.ca/projects/gcwwwdrupal-git
It's built with the HTML/CSS/jQuery that's been tested with assistive technologies so that it is very accessible and then applied to the Genesis HTML5 theme:
http://drupal.org/sandbox/sylus/1341672
The WET templates are here are things are developed by the Government of Canada, but much of the branding is going to be removed. It's a really forward thinking project. I don't know of any other initiative that is aiming to test a standardized HTML/CSS/Javascript framework against assistive technology:
http://tbs-sct.ircan-rican.gc.ca/projects/gcwwwtemplates
You can also see a video presentation about it here, from a conference I organized last week:
