Bristol meetups (again)

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for our American office to wake up - so I thought I'd write yet another post on here about the Bristol meetups.

Thanks everyone for coming yesterday, great to see you all. I think we had 12 or 13 people turn up, and it's nice we're regularly seeing 10+

I won't put an Event up for next year yet. But I don't think we'll get a good turn out if we stick to the first Wednesday rule, as that's the second day back to work. Shall we push it back a week? How would that work for everyone?

One of the outcomes from chatting yesterday was that there is definitely a desire within the group to supplement our drinking with some productive activities - but that we shouldn't try and squeeze any 'proper' talks into these causal meetup as the environment isn't right.

A loose goal of having one additional meetup with presentation in each quarter of the year was set. We've already got three or four volunteers to do short presentations so I think this is achievable. Hopefully early Feb so it doesn't start slipping.

I know there wasn't an amazing response to the question about what talks might be useful on here, but everyone seems keen in person - so I'll ask again ;o)

Perhaps everyone could reply listing three things about themselves (someone did this at a face to face event on badges before and it worked well) ideally drupal modules, themes, techniques, but also include general development stuff, front end stuff or anything you like really! I know we all have tens of strongest skills, but just pick one - no one is going to assume you're shit at everything not listed

  1. At the moment I'm most interested in:
  2. One of my strongest skills is:
  3. I am working on / have recently worked on:

And we'll just see if anything emerges from everyone's replies. So to get us started for me it's

  1. Extending Drush Make to build installation profiles
  2. Panels
  3. Pure SQL migration between Wordpress and various Drupal versions

we've had the usual wealth of replies ;o) but i know from speaking to everyone face to face that there is interest.

shall we pick the second wednesday of this month (the 11th) and we can run through plans for any more formal knowledge shares early on in before everyone has too many beers! :-) is that date good for most people?

maybe someone else could set it up this time, so it isn't just my horrible face down all the way down the group!

I'll do it at the end of the day if no one else has - but it might be nice to see another avatar :-)

Interested to find out if anybody else is using Openlayers in Drupal for mapping.

update: perhaps I should just fill in the details suggested at the top of the post:

At the moment I'm most interested in: Drupal admin changes contrib. modules to make cms admin better for the average punter..
One of my strongest skills is: err not sure, let me think about that one....
I am working on / have recently worked on: openlayers, in Drupal.

And me!

Sorry for the no-show - I thought I could make it but a last minute emergency has meant I've missed my train.

Hope you're having a great time.

Here's to the next!
