User group meeting
It seemed remarkable that a community the size of Tampa Bay has no Drupal Users Group. So Mike Wright and I decided to start one. If you are a Drupal user and live in the Tampa Bay environs: first, please join our group; second, attend our organization meeting on March 25 at 7:30 pm.
The meeting will be held via Skype. Details for connecting and the agenda will be posted within a week of the meeting date.
Our current plan is to have about three Skype meetings per quarter and one meet-up. For what? Come to the March 25 meeting and let's figure out how we can be helpful to one another.
Meanwhile, feel free to post here.

Great idea
I had the same thought. I am a relative newbie. I attended the Florida Drupal Camp in February. We're building a new site using Drupal right now. I know there are a few more of us skulking about in the TB area. Please post details. I'll be there.

Gruesome development
Well, there has been a development. I received the following a few days ago:
"Your Group entry entitled "Tampa Bay" has been denied by our content moderator. Our group guidelines are posted at http://groups.drupal.org/node/add/og. The content has been deleted from our site.
Note:
There is an existing central florida group - please post there and/or ask the admin to expand it to include Tampa Bay. We prefer to have fewer, larger groups"
Kind of chilling.
Since they obliterated the groups.tampabay site, I have no idea who was interested nor how to contact them. Do you? Send me your local contact.

I won't be able to attend the skype meeting (I'll be at a cub scout meeting with my son - aren't you jealous?), but I think this is great that you guys in Tampa Bay are doing this. When you guys have your first meetup, I'll try my best to make it over there.

Hmm. Guess I'm up against the same thing. I did add some language in to the description about us being the #13 U.S. televison market and having an estimated population of 3.8 million.
