The latest X-Prize (http://www.xprize.org/future-x-prizes/healthcare-x-prize) relates to healthcare in the United States and the enormous challenges it faces.
Not the least of these is electronic medial records (EMR), which US healthcare companies are reluctant to deal with. In the world of Big Health, $20B to fix EMR is a drop in the bucket. In the open source community $1M would be beyond generous to fund an initiative. Something like 30% of every dollar spent on healthcare is devoted to the keeping of paper records.
The XPrize offers a $10M prize and ample publicity for a team able to solve these issues. I for one believe that Drupal is well up to the task of providing an open source framework to handle EMR.
Here's an excerpt from the XPrize site:
Healthy is what we're after
And solving America's health care challenges requires the kind of innovation that only comes from competition.
WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP), the nation’s largest health benefits company, and the WellPoint Foundation, one of the largest corporate foundations in the United States are collaborating with the X PRIZE Foundation to develop an X PRIZE designed to generate new ways to address the nation’s serious health care system challenges.
In addition, WellPoint has committed to testing the selected finalists’ entries in its state markets, in order to test their ability to result in viable, creative and achievable health care system changes.
Let's see if we can put some of our talent to help resolve an important issue.

what's the actual brief?
I would be interested in working on this project, but it seems they are still in the brainstorming phase

X Prize Project
I would be interested in working on this as well.

Your right: it's in the early stages
Still, it doesn't hurt to raise some awareness around this topic right before DrupalCon.
It could be far worse: we could have come late to the game and missed an opportunity to make a difference.
At the end of the day, electronic medical records are a huge challenge/opportunity, regardless of what stage the X-Prize is in.

practical
I won't be able to attend Drupalcon, but maybe we could do a part virtual BoF session on this topic? We could potentially team up...
Who of you will be attending DC Dcon?

I will be attending DrupalCon
We can set up a connect session or conference call around this topic after DrupalCon. I doubt that there's much room for new BoF sessions.
You may want to take a look at the Twitter discussion around #ths, a summit last week in Boston titled Transforming Healthcare.
@modulist
P.S. I didn't realize how far DrupalCon was for you!
@modulist
organizing the meetup
Normally I wouldn't want to miss Drupalcon, but it didn't work out this time around.
I'm all for a meetup around this topic. From experience I learned that it's best to make things actionable. Can you put together a agenda for it? What would be the best possible outcome from this meetup?
I made a doodle where interested parties can sign up http://doodle.com/689rpwmn2rtqffrhThe Doodle is long past expiration date. If you want to get this going just post a reply here.--

Give it a week or two
I'm presenting a talk at HealthCamp Boston on 4/21. It should be a very interesting event, and it should break some new ground. I'll be presenting the Drupal community as a model for collaboration to a group from the healthcare industry.
I think there will be many folks from the healthcare side of things that will be wanting to meet up and organize. Hopefully, we can do something the week of the 27th.
Stay tuned.

I am one from the healthcare side, unfortunatlely I am in Spain
If you're interested, make yourself known by 4/21
If you've been following this thread quietly, please chime in now, so we can get a sense of how many of you are on board with using open source to improve EMR and healthcare.
Just knowing that there are fellow Drupallers that eager to dive in is huge. It makes it so, so much more likely for us to get some real momentum. If you just post a comment that says "I'm interested" by 4/21, we can present a strong show of interest at HealthCamp Boston #HCBOS.
