Presenter pool

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

There is an interesting write-up about remote presentations on the Open Media g.d.o. made by Kevin (kreynen@drupal.org). From their experiences it seems like it should be feasible to make a habit out of remote Drupal presentations.

Somebody told me that they have a list of presenters that they can draw from for Drupal events (e.g. DUG, Drupalcamp, etc). I would like to build a global resource where Drupal event organizers can draw from. Are there any other resources out there that maybe already do this?

I'm thinking in the direction of a Drupal presenters exchange, where you can indicate that you are willing to present about a certain topic, it could be integrated with the event functionality at g.d.o.

Sounds like a really good

Sounds like a really good idea. I'd be game for talking about Education / Multisite / general Drupal discussions any day :p

I'm not sure who you'd ping that off of to get it accepted or a discussion started cause I'm sure the scope is larger then that of education

drupal to support learning

I'd also be happy to talk about using drupal for blended learning in higher education courses, or to make "socially networked" department/school websites.

Distance learning

Dug, I think you're right on the money regarding using Drupal to create socially networked department/school websites. My employer provides collaboration software for distance learning initiatives at higher ed and K12 institutions. As part of that culture, my colleagues and I wanted to adopt an internal site to provide employees with updated industry/product information, training videos, sales resources, etc. We evaluated Drupal head to head with Central Desktop as a platform to deliver this type of socially networked resource. What we found was Drupal was every bit as powerful and in many cases much more elegant than commercial solutions such as Central Desktop. Unfortunately for this Drupal fan, Central Desktop was already in use in other departments and rather than go with a new system, the powers that be decided on Central Desktop. However, it was an excellent proof of concept that Drupal is very capable of providing this kind of solution for schools as well as businesses.

I'm curious how this topic/conversation develops.

I would too

Hi,

I would be interested in doing this too. I've actually been doing some experiments with the Wowza streaming media server and found that it wasn't that difficult to make Drupal work with Wowza to do some pretty cool things like web cam conferencing. I'm probably going to experiment more once I get a bit of time this summer.

what about a Wiki page here?

jredding's picture

What about putting up a wiki page in this group (drupal-camp) so that presenters can add their name to a potential list?

Or maybe teaming this up with the Drupal-Dojo?

wiki not scalable, adding this to Dojo

kvantomme's picture

A wiki won't be scaleable. I also came to the same conclusion that it should be part of the Drupal-Dojo so I've added the ideas I had to the dojo specs. Thx for the heads up.

Very intrigued by the topic

I wonder if our d.o profiles could be amended to add if we are available for presentations.
I for one am desperately trying to find as many camps and local DUGs that could use my as a presenter.
As of next week I have enjoyed presenting for a year. I am trying to make sure ppl know that I will come out and present for an evening, a whole day, a weekend. whatever.

I like dimmdimm and other virtual opportunities, but I know that one guy in a room of 12 ppl can usually get more done than one guy on a virtual-conference with 50. Just my opinion...

I'm all for a presenter pool. I really think that it should be a checkbox on our d.o and/or our GDO account.

Any more thoughts?
