Creating a "boat" content type

As part of the new website I'm creating for the Indianapolis Sailing Club I want to include a table of member owned boats. My plan is that a "boat" database will be useful for posting of regatta results in the form of skipper and boat sailed (where the skipper is not necessarily the boat owner in all cases, thus the need for a separate boat table/database).

So, I created a new content type called "boat" and configured it to not include a body. I added fields for the "owner" (reference to the user table), "sail number" and "boat type". This works well enough as I can create "boats" which then appear under the user's account information. I'm assuming (although I haven't done it yet) that I can use Views to create a custom listing of all the "boats" that are defined.

However, this has a shortcoming in that the "boat" needs to have a "title" field. At this point, I don't really want a "title" and can't think of any data to reasonably use in this field but it is required. I realize I can redefine the "title" to be something else but that doesn't seem satisfactory somehow.

As an example of what I'm trying to accomplish, something like the list of locations that one can define with the Location module would be ideal.

Any ideas or suggestions on where to go from here?

I have done this several times

CCK is absolutely the key

I renamed the title to be "Boat Name" That works great.

If you'd like samples, I'd be happy to share them.

Check out the regatta

Check out the regatta management page in this group. It's the rough recipe for signups. After a little tune-up, I'll post the export of the cck types and views.
