Overview: Magento eCommerce Platform port in to Drupal
Description: I don’t know whether this will helpful or not need some review from experts. We all know Magento is an award winning open source eCommerce platform so porting Magento to Drupal will be an awesome job.

Also, I think in general that porting or integrating third party systems is more interesting when they add capability to Drupal, rather than duplicate (Ubercart, Drupal Ecommerce).

I agree
Since Magento fits european requirements really well - I like this as a project
Proposal from last year
There was a Magneto proposal last year as well. It's worth looking through for potential ideas and pitfalls

Sorry
My comment was ... I don't think this is a good idea: I'd rather see energy put into Ubercart. @narres -- a project to implement full European support in Ubercart would be great.
Supporting existing solutions
Agreed.
VAT support is also one of the only remaining issues for the final Ubercart 2 release, I believe: http://drupal.org/node/399586
When you do integrations with other systems, you're always running up against things being done in non-standard, non-Drupal-savvy ways that I feel diminish the entire value of using Drupal for your e-commerce site. What are those things that make Magento award-winning that Drupal still lacks? Let's focus on implementing those in Ubercart.

I agree
You've got it. When UberCart will fit european (and other countries) requirements, which are close Tax and Law related: I'm glad.
Why not changing the proposal to "Best practices with Drupal and eCommerce solutions spreaded to the world" ;)
We are having some cats less here in Germany since I'm patching Ubercart all the time :)
I would say the difficulty
I would say the difficulty is high.
This is mainly because the architecture of drupal and magento are completely different, you will have to bridge that gap to make this project a success.
