Contextual Views

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I'd like to seed a discussion on Contextual overrides for views 2 module, a possible extension to the Interests module (Which i originally developed while working at Agileware and still partly maintain). I would also like to point out contextual based modules already exist, but they are not what this module has in mind.

To give some background on the idea...
I'm re-developing a drupal 5 site for an organisation, the site has a lot of content already tagged, groups, blogs, story and a cck file resource nodes the basis of the content, users have already joined to groups so their interests lie within what the group and content attached to the group has been tagged as.

The module will in effect add an additional argument handler to each view on a given page (or selected views in the settings page) pass an argument of term ids the user has stored away on their profile, and thus filter the content limiting thousands of node results to what you as an user would actually want to see - all without actually having to click a filter yet.

I'd like some input on this idea and any improvements that could be built upon it. Really it is straight forward to use pre build and pre execute functions to achieve this, having already half implemented basic functionality already.

I look forward to input, i have plenty of ideas myself in regards.
