Idea: Creating a pdf magazine

fosstux's picture

Hello!

I recently had a look at www.freiesmagazin.de - a german pdf magazine on Linux and free and opensource software. I really liked the idea. Then inspiration struck me: Why not create a magazine in german on webdesign, photography, graphics, music and design in general? One name came to my mind: OPENCRE8IVITY.

It should be an open, community driven magazine where anyone could participate. Of course Drupal can be and will be part of OPENCRE8IVITY - but not only. It should be open to all cms systems.

I already have initiated a homepage - http://opencre8ivity.net

Your feedback is welcome and greatly appreciated!

Content is king

Setting up a website is easy - but magazines (and web sites in general) live and breathe from the content that they create. Coming up with high-quality content requires a significant commitment of the initiator(s) to get the project going in the first place - it won't be sufficient to create a framework for creating content and leave the actual work to the community. There need to be at least one or two people who drive such a project and write (almost) all articles by themselves before a community is going to appear.

Have you thought about the process of creating the content, and are you up to the task of taking everything into your own hands? If not then a magazine site, however open it is, is guaranteed not to take off. I'm not saying it can't be done, but do make sure you don't underestimate the task.
