We had a small group at our meetup in Lawrence last night, but an excellent discussion.
We talked about different upgrade methods:
- The normal way, where you disable all modules, remove sites/all/modules, replace D6 files with D7 files (except for sites folder), and then run update.
- The drush way, with drush site-upgrade
- Starting fresh with a D7 site and importing
None are ideal. The drawback with the first two is that there may be errors to deal with, and the third is time-consuming but predictable (assuming the D6 site is in good shape already).
Then we talked about the Feed and Migrate modules, both of which have a place but require modifications.
Useful tools: Upgrade Status module, Content Migrate module (part of the contrib CCK for D7).
The food, company, and discussion were very enjoyable.
