E-Mail archive site?

Hello fellow Pittsburgh drupalers.

I have an idea for a site but im not sure how to do it. I currently send out a daily email to a group of my friends. I would like to have them all sign up for an account and email them through a site so that the site will archive the emails and we can access them in the future. The emails contain images and links. Any ideas on how this could work?

does this plan concern your mail archive?

I'm thinking of doing something similar.
I've been sending out mails with guidance about a particular project to colleagues, and would now like to collect those mails on something like a "handbook" site. this would mean converting a few hundred mails to nodes.
if so, please let me know how you went about it.
I'm currently exploring the possibilities of mailhandler.
If your plan doesn't concern past mails, it could very well be that the newsletter module suffices for your purposes. but I take it you've found that out by now.

Kind regards

Joris

I did something similar...

I recently did something similar on Drupal 7 (is that the version you're on?).

Mine, which I developed together with Mark Frey from the Drupal meetup group, used a CRM called RedHen-- which is essentially a contact-management system that is native to Drupal 7. Each "contact" record is a Drupal entity and can be 'associated' with a user on the site, or not, depending on your needs.

One cool thing about RedHen is it has a Views Bulk Operations plug-in called "send RedHen email", which will allow you to compose a simple email and send it in bulk to all RedHen contacts you've selected in your VBO view. These messages aren't saved anywhere, though, unless you use something like Postmark or Mandrill for sending, in which case it tracks each email message sent.

Alternately, we also developed an 'email campaign system' which is more involved. This actually saves each email "campaign" or newsletter as a node.

If the messages need to be HTML-- i.e. designed or containing nicely formatted links-- the HTMLMail module is really nice. It's easy to configure and I can help you with the specifics if you're interested.

Actually, now that I think about it, there may be a much simpler way of sending emails to a group of your friends-- for this, check out Simplenews or the Newsletter module. Each of these lets you create contact lists (they don't even have to be users) and each email message is saved either as a node or as an entity.
