I think it's important when

beeradb's picture

I think it's important when posting these things to keep in mind that most respondents will be more active in the community than general attendees, and therefor you should take results with a grain of salt :)

I agree, GDO = Drupal active peeps

Yes, but it is with the interest of know who is "here" and what they still need. If Drupal was an RPG game, you'd get +5 points for using Drupal, +5 points for being registered on g.d.o., and +1 for... eh, I am going nowhere with this. Sorry. Anyway, I agree. :)

Great point, Brad

I think that´s a great distinction, Brad. In an effort to catch a larger breadth of answers, what are your thoughts about putting a similar post up on ladrupal.org, Chris? With the caveat that folks who vote here NOT vote there. Unsure what user traffic is on ladrupal.org, but if more casual Drupalistas visit that site, it might be worth it.

Really looking forward to DCLA 2009. Attending will be great but I really want to roll up my sleeves & pitch-in big-time this year.

Would love more than one checkbox...

We need more Drupal ninjas! How about a path to expert in everything?

If life had checkboxes...

Imagine we're emulating tracks at the camp. You had to stay in one at a time and which would it be? Vote above.

Tracks should reflect the learning curve

Peter-gdo's picture

I'd like to see the beginner to intermediate sessions in the morning,
with the next level in each field be in the afternoon. And if possible
onto Sunday go to the expert level after lunch. Of course, speakers
give you the time they wish to talk, but you can always ask them
to follow another session that would be earlier on the learning curve.

It's a lot of hard work to arrange this level of session scheduling.
Maybe next year the speaker solicitions can be honed to reflect this?

I'd think it best if this year, you merely do a speaker survey asking
their feelings about the event organizers asking them to change
time slots. Many experts fly in, and would not want to speak
late Sunday.

But if you could get one solid track that worked this way, likely
it would be packed. Unfortunately, that would be a disservice
to the other speakers. Thus, the survey idea.

I know last DCLA you did some of this re-arrangement.

I'll speak on setting up an office computer development
environment for multiple local domain names with easy
publishing to the public web site, for both Unix and Windows.
This includes DNS, hosts file, IP numbers, and Apache conf.

My preference for session level is ...

To write a module from scratch, or better find a module to modify with CCK, and how to modify module source code as needed. How to best learn the database conventions of adding one's own module's table(s).

For themes it would be just above the level of making of spin off Zen theme and include how to make multiple subthemes from a master theme, for each link off the front page to a major web section, including additional blocks, color variations, header block image change, etc.

These levels did not fit into your vote categories.

And the merger, how to theme a modified module with CCK, and with Views. I guess that is intermediate. BTW, by the time the event begins, I am likely to be beyond this point. So, what comes next?
