The VVC's Web Design & Development Association (VVCWDDA) is an organization devoted towards the advancement of knowledge, skill, and expertise of web technologies in the High Desert community. Our focus is to introduce and discuss practical concepts and techniques in the development of websites, provide a platform to network and share knowledge with other web enthusiasts, impart consultation onto local businesses, and present opportunity for work experience to those interested. We meet on the second and last Wednesday of each month discussing both aspects of web design and web development, respectively. Meetings are generally held in the Student Activity Center, Floor 2 at the Victor Valley College.
This week's session is on...

Design: Redesigning a website doesn’t necessarily mean coding everything up again from scratch. Usually all you need for a website refresh is a little bit of CSS love. Cascading Style Sheets are known to be the presentation layer that handles the control of positioning, layout, color, and the general look-and-feel of a web page. Understanding how you can use CSS selectors to pluck out certain elements from your HTML is your first step towards styling your document. Sort of. Firstly, we’ll review the fundamental structure of HTML, followed by a breakdown of the syntax for creating CSS statements. As if that wasn’t enough we’ll even demonstrate what elements are effected by selectors, and then explain how the specificity of CSS rules are determined. And as a bonus we’ll briefly uncover some selectors to elements that don’t even exist in your document: pseudo-classes!

Our meetings start at 6:00PM and are generally held at Victor Valley College in the Student Activity Center, Floor 2. This week our group will meet in the Quiet Room. There is a small $2.00 parking fee for non-student attendees, so make sure you bring extra quarters!
