User group meeting
Once again DANEnet has kindly offered to host us at 517 N Segoe Rd in the 2nd floor conference room.
Neil is presenting this month, and here's what he had to say:
I am planning to discuss CiviCRM, an open-source web-based Consumer/Constituent Relationship Manager. CiviCRM is a stand-alone platform with both Joomla and Drupal integration modules. I want to touch on the following topics:
- What CiviCRM is and why you might want to use it.
- How to install CiviCRM on a stock Drupal 6 site.
- How to handle common CiviCRM pitfalls, like keeping Drupal users and CiviCRM contacts in sync.
- How to use some of CiviCRM's more advanced features, like donation pages, and why handling these features using alternative Drupal modules might be better in some situations.
- If we have time, some suggestions on where to start if you want or need to build your own Drupal/CiviCRM integration module.
If anyone wants another CiviCRM topic covered, please let me know on the groups.drupal.org site.

What about other Member management systems?
Thanks for the links, too bad I couldn't make it to the session. I currently maintain a Drupal site using civiCRM and it's a mess. CiviCRM doesn't seem to play well at least the version I'm running on the site and CiviCRM has something like 1000 include files.
I was just wondering if you have used any other member management software with Drupal. I know where I work we are doing some custom Wild Apricot integration and I found some interesting things on the Salsa and Salesforce fronts.

It really depends on what
It really depends on what you need for a membership system. Are you trying to limit access to certain parts of the site to non-members? Or are you trying to do CRM things like keeping track of relationships? If the former then I would recommend using Ubercart and a module like this one: http://www.ubercart.org/docs/user/3366/selling_site_access_role_promotions
If you do need the CRM functionality, then I recommend sticking it out with CiviCRM. That Salesforce module looks interesting, but I have never used it. If you can work with that module, then maybe it is a good alternative to CiviCRM.
June meeting?
Is there a meeting in June?

I'd like to do a brief
I'd like to do a brief presentation on salesforce. we use it a lot at work. let me know and i'll prepare something.
FYI Ishmael I would be really careful about wild apricot. we had a non-profit on that a couple of years ago and it was a total fail. the registration system broke after a couple thousand users.
