Meetup anyone?

I'm proposing to bring back regular meetups to the Miami Drupal group. At this point, I'm looking for presenters and venues, ideally around the North Miami or Brickell/Midtown areas. Hopefully, that's far enough north to attract some of the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale crowd.

This time around I'd really like to begin to see some corporate or institutional support for Drupal. If your organization uses Drupal (we know who you are ;), it's in your interest to promote monthly meetups and to try to nurture the growth of a community in your backyard. As demand for Drupal grows, we want to make sure that our pool of talent grows along with it.

but perhaps if we could do something in ft.Lauderdale, or hollywood. Its much easier to get there then all the way south.

I've never gone to one of the meetings, but I would really like to start. The closer to Ocean Drive in Hallandale, the better for me.

We have 3 or 4 projects in progress that would probably benefit from meeting more Drupalatis. I'm somwhat new to Drupal, but I love where it's going. If we begin generating profit from these projects I would certainly be willing to sponsor some events.

ok... lets do it...
what are people interested in? FLASH integration? Views? themeing? swftools? multiLingual sites? SEO? CCK? what kind of projects do we have going on?

at the moment I am working on iPhone inegration with JSON services ( including DRUPAL) and emailing campaigns. But if I get some good ideas, then perhaps we can do some demo projects... lets get some feedback.

I would especially like to see people with a wealth of privat industry experience but little or no internet experience. perhaps in Travel, healthcare, retail, horses??

Newbie Progress Report

I'm 100 pages into the O'Reilly Using Drupal book. Smooth sailing so far. I'd like to get through the whole book (~10 more days) before meeting just so I'm as up to speed as possible and things won't easily go over my head. If I had to guess now though, I'd say the topics I'm most interested in are:
Theming
Flash Integration
Swftools

Let me tell you more about my project. I want to build a blogging community for select bloggers who cover different forms of digital art like electronic music, motion graphics, digital shorts, graphic design, etc... Aside from the blogging features I need to give each blogger (posts, pictures, videos, podcasts, tags) I also want a central event listing database that any blogger can populate AND tag each event with GPS coordinates (precursor to mobile app).

I look forward to meeting y'all...

How about Brikolodge (Midtown Miami) in 2 weeks. I work in the same building so I can swing down there and nail down a date. But how does the week of July 20th - 24th. Any day is good for me so y'all put in your votes.. . . .. . . .

Drupal in Miami

Hi fellow South Floridians.

I'm looking to connect with other South Florida Drupal people. I've been involved with Drupal for nearly 5 years and recently moved my Drupal firm to Miami Beach after getting engaged. I, too, would like to see local Drupal support and activity and I'm interested in helping to put Miami on the Drupal map.

I'm also interested in finding other local experts to work with as I work to grow our local team.
