Skype and Join.me

iribarne's picture

At our monthly Broward Drupal meetups in South Florida, we have been using a combination of Skype and free web conferencing (formerly TeamViewer.com, and now Join.me) for over a year. I think it is important to see the shared desktop as a remote user.

Remote Access to Meetup

I definitely agree that you should have a combination of audio (Skype / Google + hangout) and screen sharing like Join.me. I recently attended a Central Florida Drupal meetup using Google hangout, and I've got to admit that it was hard to follow along when you only see the presenter's face and not the screen that he's displaying.

What a lot of people don't

What a lot of people don't know is that Google + has the ability to use Google Docs or screen share. You need to choose Hangouts with Extras when starting the Hangout.

Has anyone used

Has anyone used BigBlueButton?

No but I do know about it.

No but I do know about it. One thing that has stopped me from using it is the min requirements.

As a minimum, we recommend you run BigBlueButton on a dedicated dual-core machine with at least 2 GB of memory and a 2.0+ Ghz processor. A quad-core machine with 4G of memory and a faster process is better.
