Could really use some suggestions - not find solutions within the modules. Maybe overlooking. Preference by saying that I am not a module developer. (And, prefer contrib mods for client best interest as well.)

USE CASE:
Business Directory

FEATURE #1
I want good drill-down filtering of data, so using many exposed filters -- all with multiple value option. Played around with template and CSS solutions, but seemed kludgy and never quite good solution.

Problem: Hideous Views exposed filter block (depth and not-so-user-friendly select open-box, rather than checkboxes).
Desired Solution: Ideally, I'd like to have each exposed filter collapsible.
Tried: Better Exposed Filters; Global Filters -- neither seems to do. Using DS, in general - it doesn't do.

FEATURE #2
Most of my custom fields are taxonomy with each vocabularly term having been painstakingly & thoughtfully described.

Problem: However, surprisingly, by default that description isn't well available.

Desired Solution: Want the taxonomy term description to show when the term is hovered -- both on the node form and in display.

Tried: Tipsy - nice, in general. But, in spite of adding selectors config, doesn't seem to be showing. It seems from module description that is should work. But maybe the tax term isn't being exposed to it, being within custom field.

Ideas? If no current contrib module available, anyone who might be interest to create custom solution, please do send estimate.

I have found many other posts of people seeking same/similar functionality, but no good solutions.

Yikes. No extra credit for

Yikes. No extra credit for all the typos and grammatical "oopsies" in that too rushed post.

I found this...

Hi Greta,

I found this thread that could work as a solution for Feature #2.
http://drupal.org/node/170486

It's a bit old. But in essence, it's trying to achieve the same thing from what I understand--Displaying term description on a hover.

I hope this helps!!

Yes, I saw this when

Yes, I saw this when researching the issue. As you noted, it is very old -- Drupal 5 solution; much has changed with Drupal architecture. I did mention that I am not a module developer (/PHP coder). [Doesn't mean that I am not a great site builder.] So, know idea where I'd even apply this or how it need be modified for my situation.

But, hey, thanks for responding.

No problem!

If I find anything that is more useful (and relevant), I'll let you know.

Sorry if I said this

Sorry if I said this already...

Sounds like you need a patch to Better Exposed Filters that gets you the rest of the way to what you want.

Also, have you ever played with using Arguments (Contextual Filters, whatever they're called now) instead of filters?

Yeah, too bad no developer seems to agree.

I use arguments regularly. Sure don't see how I can use those to expose 25+ fields for visitor use, or to get collapsible filters. But, please do tell!

Apologies for resurrecting an old post but...

1 can be done with Better Exposed Filters. In the BEF settings dialog, click "More options for 'filter name'" to get at additional options for each exposed filter. Tick the "Make this filter collapsible". BEF will render the filter in a collapsible fieldset using the filter label as the expand/collapse link.

And, of course, it can render the filter options as checkboxes instead of a select element. That was the original reason for the module! :)

2: There is a feature request in the BEF issue queue to render term descriptions along with the term when building the filter options. Alas, I haven't given the BEF issue queue much love recently but please add your comments to that issue. Issues that get a lot of talk usually get attention before those that don't...

Hope that helps!

  1. Yep. When you get backing to your issue lovefest, you'll probably see where I annotated my post about having resolved the problem. :-) (Was an installation problem; BEF options weren't available in Views.) Noted that the issue could be closed.

  2. I just read that referenced feature request and commented there, for anyone else who might come across it. I have been asking for this functionality "everywhere"! The Tipsy module comes pretty close; seems like it should do that by design. It does show the vocabulary description on hover of a term. Have asked the developer of that module if he will consider the request. He responded, but hasn't made a final decision. (Don't know if I will be able to afford the custom work for that.)

Perhaps you two could share expertise on this. It (taxonomy description) really is an essential feature. Really surprised no one has exposed that functionality. Without further explanation of select options, integrity of the data is compromised -- won't get best info on questionnaires.
