Venue Suggestions?

dale42's picture

Any suggestions for venues near the Vancouver Convention Centre? I don't spend enough time downtown to know the good and bad places.

What sort of venue do you

What sort of venue do you have in mind Dale? I've heard the nearby Lions Pub is a decent place for groups to reserve and mingle, though I haven't been there myself.

Someplace comfortable for socializing

Hey Shawn, someplace that's comfortable for socializing, can handle a group, and doesn't make people walk too far from the convention centre. Decent food would be good, too.

We may be able to borrow a conference room at end-of-day Thursday. If we can, we'll do a Drupal birds-of-a-feather session (open to non-conference goers) and then adjourn to someplace where people interested in continuing the conversation can get food and drink.

Anyone been to Lions Pub? Other suggestions?

maybe steamworks hey? close

maybe steamworks hey? close and easy to fit lots of people. though lions pub is basically right across the street!

The Mill = Great patio

The Mill is also in the neighbourhood, and if the weather cooperates the patio would be nice.

Great

The Mill == ridiculously overpriced food and drink.

Also, walkah is coming too, I think. Maybe give him "double billing" in the social :P

Other venue ideas:
* Lions Pub (small patio, but pretty big place) (edit: yes, this is good for groups)
* Alibi Room (also pricey, but fantastic quality)
* BBQ at Crab Park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can use the hack room at

We can use the hack room at the convention center at least initially, and if people can't attend the conference but still show up you should be able to just walk in ~5:30 or so. I do agree we'll need to find fried foods and beverages quite quickly though.

Call me Jaded I'm sick to death of Steamworks. Could we do a bit of a walk to gastown ( 6 acres? ) or even a train ride to the Drive? Otherwise the Lions is probably fine as long as we call ahead.

I was planning to go to the Surrey Drupal Meetup, but this will be much closer and less traffic. I haven't attended one of these before. What can expect, need to bring, etc...

No more conflict. We pushed

Discussion

colincalnan's picture

I was just wondering what was going to be discussed at the BOF meetup, it wasn't clear what would be happening from the initial posting. Is it going to be an open session and a topic chosen at the beginning or a "State of Drupal 7" talk from Angie?

I think it's more social ie.

I think it's more social ie. no planned topic or presentation - just chatting and geeking out as the mood takes everyone.
