Come out to get help installing a drupal stack on your laptop in preparation for Camp tomorrow, and to meet fellow Campers.

Drupal as a Learning Community Managment System
Has the debate about using Drupal as a LMS matured. I want to create a learning community consisting of a portal that allows students to view courses , provide single sign on, create profiles , update pictures , upload content build network of networks (NON) or communities of communities (COC). A student (whether registered or prospective) must be able to build a network around them. A debate starts with a specific subject matter. A discussion by lecturers , administrators can be formed. Content is linked to the student depending on interest areas. A taxonomy system that makes content more proactive. The debate is on going in my head but some thoughts on the matter would be highly appreciated. I am based in the Madison area , hit me up!

The nice thing about Drupal
The nice thing about Drupal is that you can do almost anything with it--including just about everything you've mentioned. You'll want to have a look at the Organic Groups module for building communities of communities. What you're describing is quite elaborate and would take quite a bit of time and experience to build, but I'd say it could be done.
Drupal as an LMS
Drupal is being used as an LMS in numerous environments, and the conversation continues to mature. The week of DrupalCampWI this year, we were able to get several players from across the country in the same room to discuss including btopro, dmcw, jct, and billfitzgerald.
I'll refer you to the Drupal in Education group on groups.drupal.org for conversations of interest. I will also refer you to btopro's comments following DrupalCampWI: http://btopro.wordpress.com/2009/06/07/how-to-follow-with-such-incredibl...
