Purpose & Principles

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

The start of the discussion on our Purpose & Principles:

The purpose of this group is for all group members to design, specify, and develop all necessary code to integrate Drupal with netFORUM. This is intended to be a base, yet thorough integration with minor customization (primarily theme) for individual netFORUM customers.

All members have an equal vote, regardless of their contribution, roles, or responsibilities. However, if a member does not participate, they relinquish their right to vote. If a member acts counter to the groups interest, the other members may vote to remove that member.

While this group does not act in secrecy, it is understood that the proceedings of this group might be seen as negative to Avectra and should not be disclosed to any Avectra employee.

Principles & Purpose from a former group

pdube's picture

To kick start the discussion, I am posting the Purpose & Principles statement from a group I founded in the past:

The Align IT Advisors
Shared commitment to our purpose and principles is a critical part of what binds the ALIGN IT ADVISORS community together. The ALIGN IT ADVISORS Commons is a community of individuals representing themselves, and/or a variety of organizational entities. Each individual and/or organizational entity is one of the following classes of stakeholders:

Membership types under consideration:
• Founding Member
• Owning Member
• Advisory Member
• Affiliate
Advisor (Member)

Subordinate Membership types:
• Associate Advisor
• Applicant
• Partner

Basic Precepts:
• Members of the ALIGN IT ADVISORS Commons agree to pioneer new ways to organize that are based on the power of collaborative networking.
• Collaborative networking is based on the conscious development of mutually interdependent and trusted relationships between individuals. This entails the equitable ownership and governance of the organization by its members and an equitable distribution of resources, authority and power throughout the organization.
• Members also agree to advance deeply shared purposes, and foster the common good of its members. In addition, ALIGN IT ADVISORS members agree to share in the governance of the commons and at all times to promote its well being as a community.

ALIGN IT ADVISORS – a purpose-centered and principle-based community
The ALIGN IT ADVISORS commons is purpose-centered and principle-based. The common purpose that all members share is:
• To realize the power of collaborative networking on an equitable basis for all its members
• To create and share economic, social and environmental capital

Rights and responsibilities of membership
Members of the ALIGN IT ADVISORS commons have:
1. The responsibility to manage and update your own profile and data.
2. The opportunity to observe, initiate or participate in the activities of the commons.
3. Access to the common properties of the commons.
4. Access to and participation in the community of owning members.
5. The right to use the commons’ marks.
6. The right to discounted products and services.
7. The right and responsibility to participate in the governance of the commons.

Principles of practice
Members observe the following principles when participating in activities of the commons:
1. All members agree to provide sufficient information about themselves to enable members to identify each other and to develop relationships with other members based on trust and reputation in order to advance their purpose for being a member.
2. All activities between members are voluntary unless and until a specific commercial agreement has been undertaken between a consenting group of members.
3. Freely and fully exchange information, knowledge, emotion, wisdom, referral, and transformational opportunities relevant to the purpose and principles unless doing so violates confidentiality or materially diminishes competitive position.
4. Be open to membership by any individual or institution subscribing to the purpose and principles in conducting activities of the ALIGN IT ADVISORS commons.
5. Have the right to self-organize at any time, on any scale, in any form, for any activity consistent with the purpose and principles.
6. Conduct deliberations and make decisions by bodies and methods that reasonably represent all relevant and affected parties and are dominated by none.
7. Vest authority, perform functions, and use resources in the smallest or most local part that includes all relevant and affected parties.
8. Work collaboratively, to the maximum degree possible.
9. Behave in a manner, which engenders sustainable, mutually interdependent and trusting relationships.
10. Work to ensure interdependent health and diversity of individuals, communities, institutions, cultures and other life forms.
11. Work to ensure that human capacities, technologies and organizations sustain and support, not systemically alter, degrade or destroy, the earth, its diversity of life or life support systems.
12. Resolve conflict creatively and cooperatively without physical, economic, psychological, social, or ecological violence.
13. Agree to not enter into any agreement, arrangement or understanding with any other party that would in any way conflict or interfere with these Principles or that would prevent any member from performing any duties in the interest of the commons.
14. Conduct themselves with utmost integrity and morality in all dealings with, or on behalf of the commons.
15. Respect the legal rights of all holders of copyright at all times.

AUG rules

pdube's picture

Should we adopt 'rules' similar to the AUG rules in this topic? Is that even necessary?

In the spirit of this so-op, I am thinking every member should be an admin. What are your thoughts? Would that cause issues or are you in favor of it?

Every 'Customer" member should have an equal vote and be (perhaps) an admin.

Thoughts on the P & P's?

pdube's picture

Greetings all,

Happy Independence Day!

I would really love comments on the Purpose & Principles. I'd like to make progress on the basic agreement of the members as well as the specifications of the product.

I know everyone has 'a day job' - believe me, I am busy too. However, we need to move things along so we don't stall. It won't help anyone if we let that happen - we'll all have to do separate development projects and that'll waste a lot of $$ and other resources.

Best Regards,
Paul

I'm on board with this

I'm on board with this setup. It seems fair and logical. There are no real red-flags for me.

Who is the member?

Nleslie's picture

Just would like to clarify do the voting rights live with the organization or the individual?

Hi Nancy, That is certainly

Hi Nancy,

That is certainly open to discussion but my thought was the organization is the member. I believe that is more fair.
