Cape Town Drupal Meeting (13 June) Wrapup

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This was the second Drupal meeting in Cape Town. There were 5 of us and it was quite fun. It was nice to have Willem van Straaten (http://groups.drupal.org/user/155) with us from Johannesburg to see what were about down here and to try and co-ordinate the meeting content between JHB and CPT. Basically there was no agenda for this meeting so we chatted about all sorts of interesting things and it was not very structured.

I think that it will be a good idea if we can work around the model that they have in JHB where they meet once a month for around 2 hours sometime during the week and then every three months they will do a big meeting on a weekend or something like that. Another thing that must be set up is an agenda so that we know what we are going to chat about. We must also setup roles, like a meeting co-ordinator/manager etc... I am happy to be the manager of the meetings and set them up, create the agenda from your suggestions etc ...

Who was there:

Jonathan Wagener, (theamoeba) - http://drupal.org/user/251700 (me)
Michael Wagener (mwmentor) - http://groups.drupal.org/user/39010
Tyrone Rubin (tyronerubin) - http://groups.drupal.org/user/37738
Stew West (sideswitch) - http://groups.drupal.org/user/38241

Another thing that came up

Another thing that came up was a monthly newsletter from http://drupal.co.za that sort of discusses what people are doing and what is happening at meetings amoungst other things. :)

Great!

This sounds great, theamoeba - thanks for stepping up to organise this. A once-monthly 2 hours meeting sounds good, with a bigger weekend one every 3 months. Are you going to throw around some dates for the first 2-hour meeting?

I would like to suggest the

I would like to suggest the 4th of July for the next 2 hour meeting. I think that we should keep it at Sinns, Wembly Square because that is nice and central and we seem to know where it is :).

I think that it will be a good idea if we implement something like an agenda, I will compile this from the comments to this post or a subsequent event post for the meeting. An agenda will allow us to have some kind of direction with the meetings so that they dont go on forever and become nonsense sessions, if that happens people will stop coming.

I would really like to hear your suggestions, if you would like to suggest other dates please go ahead. I think that at the beginning of the month is a nice time to do it.

Hi there

Thanks for arranging!

I just can't make the 4th or 11th, but don't let that stop you. I'll just make the neeeext one.Awesome.

By the way, am enjoying my new learnign curve....have installed drupal 6.12 and am playing with theming....may need someone to walk me through basics...but getting there.
Am interested in the multisite concept...on one core...some help?

Stew

Great. Have a look at this

Great. Have a look at this module http://drupal.org/project/multisite_manager as it allows you to have many sites off one installation. Adrian has also been working on a system called Aegir http://groups.drupal.org/aegir-hosting-system that does a similar thing but it is the whole hosting manager etc ... :)

As for theming that is a lot of documentation around for that, I would suggest starting with the drupal handbooks http://drupal.org/handbooks (that is where i started and it helped me alot).
