Repeated Fieldgroups with alternating fields

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello,
I have recently switched to Drupal from Joomla, and my question may be basic:

I'd like to create a content type for adding testimonial quotes to any page. I'd like to have a quote field and a credit field designated so I can designate styles automatically.

I figured out how to make a fieldgroup with my two fields.

Is there a good way to repeat this fieldgroup three times in a page or story, and have it be easily editable so that you can have different quotes on each page?

The way I have it the quotes are all the same. I am trying to use cck and views for this but I think it does not work the way I expected and now I'm confused.

I've added the fields to pages and tried it as a block but I'm not getting the results I'd like to have.

Thank you for any help!

Hi Julia.

Can you give more explanation on how you want your work to be done? I mean, can you give us a real scenario so that we can understand.

There's a testimonial module you can find on the site. But it's still under dev: http://drupal.org/project/testimonial

Sure thing!

When developed, that testimonial module may be what I'm after, but until then here is my scenario:

I have a drupal site that has pages with text and images. I'd like to add context appropriate testimonials to each page.
In a static HTML site, I'd add a div with paragraph classes to style my testimonial quotes. (usually .quote and .quote-credit for the signature line)
In the drupal scenario, I'd like the administrator to be able to log in and edit or add new testimonials as one might fill out a form, so they don't have to know which paragraph classes to assign to get the proper look.
My first thought was to create a content type of "page with testimonials" so the entire page and the testimonials can be edited as one.
When I got into CCK I became confused as to how to set that all up. Once I had my first quote and credit line fieldgroup, it seems that if I set it to repeat so there are three in a row, there is no convenient way to edit the fields individually? Now I am likely not making sense anymore.
This is actually my first drupal site and I am just jumping right in there with this stuff. I am not as clear on how cck works with views as I'd like to be.
I can send a link to the actual site if needed, but it is pretty rough and may not help much.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Julia! Just to be sure i

Hi Julia!

Just to be sure i understood what you want, i will write it with my words.

All you want is to add testimonials to pages on your site. The admin can edit or add a new testimonial on any node anytime. The others can too. If this is what you want, here is my proposal.

The way you did it with cck is not the right one, as the fieldgroup will appear more than once (you noticed it too). The best way is to create a content type named testimonial which will be linked to your normal node. Let me make it clear.

You have a first content type page where you want to add testimonials. Then create a new content type: testimonial which you link to page. To achieve it, download and install node comment.

Once the module is installed, you will need some configuration for you testimonials to appear on the site.

1- go to admin/settings/nodecomment and select comment for default nodetype for comments.
2- go to admin/content/types create a new content type: testimonial.
3- Make sure you new content type (testimonial) is not configure to use comments.
4- Select any other content type to update. On this last, designate testimonial to be used as comment.

And you're done.

Hope this will fix you lol

Have a nice day.

This is closer but still no banana

I figured out the designation of a content type as comments, but I am not seeing the comments that I am creating and saving.
I have them enabled and so forth.
It is almost the solution for me but I still have the issue where I want to have the two paragraphs styled differently without the person leaving the comments needing to know how to assign a class to a paragraph.

Hmmm.

I missed a step

wilmar81's picture

Hmmm!

You must allow your testimonials to be displayed.

Let's suppose you want to post testimonials on content type...page. Go on content type page to update it. In the zone where you selected the content type which should be used as testimonial for page, there's another combo box where you MUST select the type of view which will render your testimonials. Obviously, views module must be enabled. This done, you also must configure users' right to view testimonials. hope you know where to setup users' privileges.

If the paragraphs you're talking about are from different people, you can customize them through css.

If hope this helps.

Right! Views!

juliavdw's picture

Ok, so I did everything on the list but go into views! My homework, then, is to sit down with a tutorial on views because my experiments with it so far have not yielded results I could see. I think that I understand what it does, but not so much how it works with the other pieces, and there are certainly a number of settings in there that I do not know what they do.

My my. I am certainly becoming familiar with all the configurations and settings adjustments with this project- Getting closer!

follow up with solution

juliavdw's picture

OK,
So I figured out how to do what I was after:

created a content type "testimonial" with quote field and signature line field

set up a "full page" view to list all of them in a row

enabled taxonomy tags to display them in context on other pages

It definitely helped me to watch some instructional videos on cck and views- they don't work the way I imagined at first, but now I understand much better how to use them.

I certainly learned a lot from trying the suggestions in this thread also. Hooray!

node comment for Testimonial

rajesh.sharma1's picture

Hi

after installing the nodecomment module in my module folder
the nodecomment option is not showing
I am using my admin/settings/ path but still have problem
can help me please?

Thanks

Hi, I actually solved my

juliavdw's picture

Hi, I actually solved my original issue by creating a content type "testimonial" with fields "Quote" and "signature" and then controlling the display with views and css.

But if you want people to add testimonials via comments? and control the display of comments easily then node comment would be a good choice.

have you gone through the installation process listed here: http://drupal.org/project/nodecomment ?
and the predictable question: have you flushed cache?
