@cafuego and I have been working on conference websites for a while. Stabilising our own home grown conference management system on top of an established open source CMS was one of the factors that lead us to choose Drupal.
We have some modules on github (yes, we plan to move them to drupal.org) which we use to run conferences. We called our module suite, Converge.

Our clients needed double blind peer review to assess call for paper submissions, and a granular session selection system.
Creative Contingencies is very keen to get involved in the COD distro project.
I'm not a developer myself - so my focus is more on usability, and functionality. Cafuego is our developer.
There are only two of us, but we're both willing to roll our sleeves up and help out where we can.

DrupalCon Sydney and COD
Hi Donna,
I know you're one of the movers and shakers in the Australian Drupal community so I'm assuming you've been involved with the DrupalCon Sydney website.
If you are, have you got any feedback on how you're finding COD 7? Did you end up merging Converge into COD 7?
I never made it to Drupal Downunder but the tshirts are still among my favourites!

I haven't yet worked with COD 7 directly, but @cafuego did roll up his sleeves and help out on a few issues in the lead up to the recent release. So I guess the best answer at this point is "in progress".
I've actually had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the DrupalCon Sydney website :-) That's been a previousnext, crossfunctional, drupalassociation co production.

This is all very exciting - welcome to the project! It's clear that you and cafuego have a lot of experience with events in Drupal so that should make a great addition to COD.
This group is one place for discussion, particularly of general topics and not focused on a specific issue. The issue queue and #drupal-cod are the most active places, in my experience.
For the double-blind peer review feature - if your goal is to contribute that it seems like that could be a sub-module of the cod_support package.
Looking forward to collaborating further around events in Drupal!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome.
I don't think double blind peer review is something DrupalCon needs, or most camps are likely to need - but it's certainly a big requirement for a lot of academic conferences. And, as knowledge sharing exercises, academic conferences are where a lot of research first sees the light of day - so I think it's at least considering making this functionality more widely available, and perhaps encourage this huge market to consider using COD.
It makes sense (at least to me) that this would be an add-on module for COD, not part of the base distribution, but easily snapped into place for those events that need it.
There are a few different systems out there that deliver this kind of functionality, but none are as nice as Drupal. :)
Admittedly my review of the landscape is a little dated now, and it might be useful for me to revisit that and post a summary somewhere.
