How do you use VirtualBox BOA?

I DONT, Great concept, but haven't got it to work locally!

Upgrade VBOA4 to VBOA5?

VBOA4 is 40 weeks old, and all the platforms are therefore outdated

I am looking for others that might be interested in sponsoring an upgrade

ideally I would like to make it a well-documented and supportable VirtualBox image, that could eventually converge with DrupalPro/Drupal Quickstart

I'm currently doing option 2, that is "I DO, and I use VBOA4 locally" but I'd like to be able to answer "I DO and have a self-install VirtualBox BOA running locally"

The notes for Barracuda says it is supported to be installed in Virtualbox. Has anyone actually done this? It would be great to hear from someone who has successfully done this and how they are doing so. I've tried multiple times on both Debian Squeeze and Ubuntue Precise to no avail.

I'm considering posting an issue, but I want to take the time to attempt again and document all Virtualbox and BOA settings so I can post a useful issue.

I've tried both VBOA4 and Aegir-up. VBOA worked pretty well except (and probably my fault) I couldn't seem to ssh in correctly to use drush for modules etc. With Aegir-up I kept getting errors in setup on my ubuntu system, when it seemed to be set up, the networking wasn't working.

If you mean a local install of BOA by itself, not VBOA, then no, I haven't even tried. From what I had read, it wasn't working out for most, and VBOA and Aegir up just seemed better suited for someone with less linux knowledge like myself. I did see a virtualbox image on the roadmap for Omega8cc at some point, so I was kinda holding out hope that would happen :)

Since this last post, I've done both a local BOA install on my host Ubuntu system, works fine, but had to use HEAD (due to a known bug), and now also a virtualbox ubuntu 12.04 desktop guest that runs boa. For the virtualbox, I access the aegir site through the guest, and use sftp to transfer files to it, and port forwarding to view the sites. You have to edit two hosts files, but not a big deal.

I have a question though, does anyone know how to return control of the apt updates back to the ubuntu updater GUI, instead of barracuda?

BOA 2.04 Dev WORKS NICELY on Precise VirtualBox / VMWare on W7

I've managed to get BOA 2.04 dev running on Precise (not Debian, although there is a fix) as a guest within both a VirtuallBox OR a VMware workstation 8 local install

I've not managed BOA 203 install direct, although I need to check this properly, but I did seem to be able to install BOA 2.04 dev (HEAD) and then "upgrade" to 203 STABLE

it seemed a combination of some DNS set-up issues within BOA and most importantly the networking setups possible on VirtualBox. VMware is a lot less easy to mis-configure whereas VirtualBox lets you mis-configure like nuts IMHO

changing my vote and look forward to ironing out the rest of the bugs and running a stable VBOA 2.04 !
