BAVC Selected to Assume Public Access Operations in San Francisco

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Probably not new news to people in these groups - looks very complimentary to some of the efforts in the Drupal Public media space and Open Source/Drupal in general -

BACV Vision

This is news to me. I really like their proposal. Calling themselves a "transmedia community center of the future" . . .

Also see interest in a national network infrastructure . . .

On that link to the story above, take a look at the PDF file for BAVC's Vision for San Francisco Public Access --- check out pages 21, 22

iv. Phase 4: National network infrastructure, model sharing, capital-pooling
Beginning July 1, 2014

Expansion of developed model to other sites nationally; could include funding for
open-source implementation of integrated broadcast/online system for other

• Exploration of fiber optic network distribution opportunities (e.g. direct streaming

Here is another snippet from the BAVC Vision

BAVC will work with Miro, a project of the Participatory Culture Foundation that creates
media players and dynamic online environments for media, to create an automated
online distribution system and social networking environment to complement and
support public access broadcast channels 1 and 2. Miro’s objective is to build
sustainable connections between existing community media resources and the broader
communities they serve.

Media Alliance comments

Media Alliance has posted comments to BAVC's proposal for operating AccessSF - worth looking at. While I like Miro as a platform, I do think we're venturing into that messy territory of 'internet' as a viable replacement for traditional access channels and services.

Video Camp SF

The same org is also putting on VideoCamp SF in Oct - http://www.videocampsf.com/. Again, looks very complimentary to Open Media Project and related efforts. Are there any current points of collaboration? Should there be?
