Everyone should definitely check out Angie Byron a.k.a webchick's keynote on Women in Open Source. She was awesome (and so was Liza Kindred).
The overall numbers are shockingly bad, BUT in the Drupal community, we are lucky to have webchick. On top of her many contributions to the community she has made it one of her goals to help get women involved. This Drupalchix group is a small example of her efforts.
| Category | % of Women |
|---|---|
| Proprietary SW | 28% |
| Open Source | 1.5% |
| Drupal | 8-12% |

Thanks for this post. I
Thanks for this post.
I tried to watch the keynote and got:
"This file is unavailable until Aug. 8, 2009 because the uploader's account has reached its download limit. "
Is there a possibility to put it elsewhere, like blip.tv or whatever?
Thanks a lot for considering.

Hi Bettina,
Hrmm, that's not fun. I don't know if it exists elsewhere yet, but in the meantime, it looks like if you register a free account, you'll be able to see it. Not ideal, I know but at least you'll be able to watch :)
Thank you, yes I did this
Thank you, yes I did this now. I decided it should not mean any harm. :-)
You see how many people are interested in your post.

Wow, thanks Jacine! :D
FYI: I hosted the video on my blog since that other service seems to have blocked it until next month. So if you click on "Read the post" you can watch it there, if you want.
Thanks for your kind words, Jacine! But I am just one of many, many women in the Drupal community working her butt off. :) I think it's so awesome that pretty much wherever you look -- coders, themers, designers, business owners, advocates, user support people, etc. -- you see women in the Drupal community out there kicking ass. I think the secret to world domination is getting the word out better to other women that the Drupal community's a great place to be. :)
I really enjoyed watching
I really enjoyed watching the video! Afterward I sent some of the stats and stories you brought up to friends in other industries and they were completely shocked.
